Aviva Car Insurance Direct Debit Policy

    Hi everyone,

Has anyone been quoted by aviva for car insurance lately? I just got quoted for an additional 60% on top of their quote if I was to avail of their direct debit option. That seems absolutely mental (like €400 odd to go with direct debit over upfront?!) and completely out of line with other companies? I've actually got a cheaper quote incl direct debit from Zurich but just wondering if Aviva just don't want me or are they really charging that much!

Sounds like an error on their part to be honest. It always costs a bit more to go DD over paying up front, but youre talking something in the region of maybe 8% I think (I could have that wrong but its not a huge amount of money).

It really is that high, apparently this is because means of payment is another factor when determining policy cost

Thats just lunacy, 60% loading for DD! Certainly not going with them anyways

Why not call them and ask them why? It could simply be a clerical error.

Oh I was on the phone to them when she quoted. She just said sorry thats our policy. I was just curious if it was across the board for all policy owners with them

I can be tricky cancelling especially if you stumped up a sizable deposit. Then there is the whole policy cancelled can of worms.

I'm in the same situation. It's unbelievable!!!

Its not a mistake. It has to do with the way the policy is placed electronically. There is a huge difference in the premium when Aviva need to involve a human, as is necessary to process a direct debit (set up, default, collection, cancellation etc). Didn't believe it until I had to deal with it myself
