The west (rightly) stood up against Milosevic' (nominally Christian) Serbia when it was brutalising muslims in Kosova. So I don't buy this simplistic suggestion.

Wheres the evidence to back the claim you made earlier about links between ISIS and Hamas?

An extract from the HAMAS charter. This is what Israel faces.

The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!

The obvious solution is staring everyone in the face: a secure Palestine based on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with full access between both parts, and the consequent dismantling of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank. However the longer Hamas chucks rockets into Israel and uses its own people as so much propaganda fodder; the more Israel moves to the right and reacts disproportionately. There are lessons from our own peace process but will anyone learn from it?

There is no link. One is Sunni and backed by Saudi Arabia/US the other is Shia and backed by Iran. Relations between Hamas and Iran are strained because Hamas refused to go and fight with Assad. Since the disposal of the Muslim Brotherhood the new regime has filled in all the tunnels to Sinai and now Hamas have desperately turned to Fattah. Who were foolish enough to accept them in because they believed the presence of Hamas might speed up the peace process. But how can Israel deal with people who want to wipe them out?

I must have been asleep when this became an established fact as opposed to a claim by the IDF.

i have always wondered about that , its funny , but i have NEVER seen actual proof that ANYONE was hiding weapons in schools and mosques

other that the IDF - why has no one seen these arsenals.

i am not saying they dont or did not exist - but if they did , would not the UN the EU and the US be lording over it and showing pics and videos

anytime i have seen video of Hammas launching rockets , it never in a built up area , usually scrub land on the outskirts

if anyone can provide links showing the weapons or launches from a school or hospital , i would like to see it

    From BBC News:

Hamas could have stopped the bloodshed this morning, if they were so inclined. Instead they meet the offer of a truce with rockets.

so , they would have agreed , and gone back to being prisoners of the IDF

i can imagine how some in Hammas might not see that as progress

if the Israelis stopped building settlements on stolen land , Hammas might be a bit less pissed off

    just saying like !!

What were the conditions of the ceasefire?

Until we know that, any musings on Hamas reject it are bollocks.

"Hamas has set out its key demands for ending rocket fire, which include the lifting of Israel's eight-year blockade on the Gaza Strip, the opening of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt and the release of more than 50 Palestinian prisoners Israel recently rearrested after freeing them in exchange for kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011."

That was the plan when Israel elected Ehud Baraks government, he began by disengaging from Lebanon at first, then Gaza and granting them limited autonomy, including free sea and air ports. He also agreed to halt the settlements in the WB but not to a pull out.

But Arafat thought opening a second intifada seemed like a better idea.

To be fair, it looks like there hasn't been an official statement from the political wing of Hamas, just the military wing, which would suggest there's a bit of split happening within the organisation. Also, Egypt would have done well to actually keep both sides updated on what was actually happening. Supposedly Hamas were not properly informed of the negotiations for a ceasefire. Lastly, I expect we'll probably hear that the terms of the agreement for a ceasefire probably don't meet Hamas' requirements, including the lifting of the blockade on Gaza and the release of prisoners who were rearrested.

Look at Syria, Libya, Egypt. They don't need Israel for an excuse to kill each other.

The first question isn't a legitimate question. The second question doesn't make sense - do death tolls need to be 50/50? Israel protects its people with Iron Dome; Hamas protects its weapons by using its people. Lastly, genocide is the indiscriminate wiping out of a population. It's an actual term, not just something you can use as a slogan. The only indiscriminate attacks are the useless rockets Hamas fires into Israel.

Here's a question for you: do you think Hamas should stop firing the rockets? Egypt has proposed a truce, Israel has accepted it, and Hamas has no strategic or firepower edge. Why not take the truce and end the current crisis?
wouldn't make a difference, good old ben will find another excuse to bomb gaza again in a few months

There is nothing to be said that hasn't been said before. You're either with Israel and it's struggle to survive or your against it.

The notion that Israels survival is threatened is rather laughable, tbh.

The people laughing at my suggestion that Arabs don't need Israel as an excuse to kill. The kill each other just fine.

    Just like in:

    Syria
    Iraq
    Afghanistan
    Libya
    Egypt

As to the notion that Israel's survival is laughable? I don't think so.

It is laughable, because it's racist horseshhit, and has pretty much nothing to do with Israel's conduct.

    Afghans aren't Arabs.

So racist guff. Grand. I prefer to see people be clear about what they mean rather than come out later and start denying it.

Of course you don't. You make the logical assumption that a bunch of fellas armed with AKs and home made rockets, under constant surveillance, can overcome the first world army of a nuclear power. No flaw in the plan there.
