I was accepted on a Springboard course yesterday. I'm currently unemployed but I want to know if my circumstances change and I find a job, will I be still able to do the course?

And if my circumstances don't and I'm still unemployed, can I retain my SW payment while I study the course?

    Thanks

I would presume if you decide to do the course and you find work then you should be able to continue on the course. AFAIK you will have to bring a form to SW for them to sign to verify that you are eligible for the course and you will fill out a part time education form PTEO.

What happens if I get a job while participating on a Springboard course?

Taking up a suitable job offer must take precedence over participation in a Springboard course, however, higher education providers have been asked to respond with as much flexibility as possible in instances where participants get a job before their course is complete. For example, a college may offer participants the option to study during evenings or at weekends.

As far as I know, fees have already been paid so you can continue the course. However, you won't be entitled to your welfare payment, at least not the full rate. It will be reduced for the days you work and it may be means tested.

If you remain unemployed you will retain your social welfare payment. Under the rules of springboard you must be actively seeking employment and the employment must take precedence over the course.. in reality, you won't hear a peep from the social welfare office as long as you're doing the course.

This. I actually did an Springboard course and Jobridge scheme at the same time. The SW were fine as long as the Springboard did not interfere with the Jobridge. Luckily the company I was "working" for on JB allowed me the time off to do the Springboard course and as both were in the same field they complimented each other well.

I did a springboard course. One of the guys in my course ended up getting a full time job half way into the course. He was still able to complete it, without having to pay fees or anything.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I just checked the website where I'm taking the course and it looks as though I'm saving myself 2,200 euros for this course. That's pretty cool!

Do you mind me asking how long the application process took from the time you submit your application, then show proof of qualifications to acceptance?
