Still do. Any team that has won the World Cup is entitled to have stars on their shirt depicting the number of victories. It shows you are part of an elite number of nations that have triumphed on the greatest stage.

But how would you know that???

It's a fairly well known fact. Clubs do it too when they win the european cup.

Exactly. So why was that kid trying to say England were going on about 66 by having it on their shirts in 2006?

Have to say I thought the celebrations would have been a little more mental than they were.

It was fairly reserved and civilised. The biggest cheer was when the plane carrying the team flew over the fanzone.

I'm guessing that some of the players and fans are hungover or tired from celebrating the previous couple of days.

Just reading that RVP gave his bronze medal to some muppet in the crowd after Saturdays 3rd place playoff.

That meaningless fixture really needs to be shelved. It's a game no player wants to be involved in.

I think teams from smaller countries would take it more seriously and it wouldn't be meaningless to them. Like if Chile or Costa Rica had made it that far.

Wouldn't call it meaningless, I'd say Uruguay at the last World Cup and Turkey/South Korea in 2002 were only delighted to have a chance to win a medal. No one would have thought they'd have played so well.

Obviously when it's a team like Brazil/Germany/Holland/Argentina they'd be disappointed to only come 3rd but that's not FIFA's fault.

Ya fair point, I suppose it would mean more to a smaller country who defied the odds even getting there.

Actually come to think of it Croatia won it in 98 and it was huge deal for them, Davor Suker and co. First WC I remember watching properly.

Just imagine if Ireland got there. :p

    I don't think we'd be complaining.

Opps, thought he was talking about the tournament not the 3rd place playoff

Last post I'd read was about the reserved celebrations of the Germans!
