People seem to be allowed to say "fúck Israel, and fúck Israelis" + call them every name under the sun.

If we said that about any other country, of if we said fúck islamic people then it would be instant bans all around.

So fúck Hamas, blow them to smitherines I say.

And where are "people" saying this on this website?

My issues lie with the IDF and the Israeli Govt, not the people.

You seem a bit confused as to the facts there.

Lord Sutch has a Ladybird book 'goodies and baddies' view of the world.

    Baddies' violence = terrorism.

    Goodies' violence = security/defence.

I was wondering if maybe he meant people who left the Balaclava on when they were atein the soup, or used the bit of explosive to get the fire started.

So are they or are they not using guided missiles?

    You're not clear.
THEY PROBABLY ARE USING GUIDED WEAPONS BUT ARE DELIBERATELY GUIDING THEM TO CIVILIAN AREAS FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT

That makes no sense since its not civilians launching rockets at Israel, plus civilian deaths have a certain collateral damage value to Hamas which Israel would certainly wish to avoid.

The IDF have been at this war thingy long enough that, if they were really deliberately targeting civilians there'd be a lot more than a handful of casualties.

The Palestinians really have little option but to fight in any way they can. Even by behaving peacefully they still have their people brutalised and killed and have their land stolen. Who could blame them for whatever way they choose to resist.

what exactly are you on about here? there is a difference between wanting a state who murders civilians to be held accountable for its crimes and dislike of a religion, do you believe those who criticise israel are anti-jewish?

Indeed, Israel has struck over 1 thousand targets so far. The Palestinians claim 100 have died which would put the real figure at about 70 (of whom Hamas have already admitted a number of their fighters killed), which is less than 0.07 fatalities per bomb/missile strike, an astonishingly low figure if Israels intent was to kill civilians

Hamas launch their rockets from schools, homes, hospitals and other public places with the approval of their own people ~ there is a culture of martyrdom in Islam which makes this a perfect good way to die.

Now I'm not making excuses for Israel, I hate this battle too & I hate that civilians are once again going to bare the brunt of it, but that's simply how these strikes go.

The overwhelming feeling amongst the Palestinians when this happens is fear. The notion that they are looking forward to a good death at the hands of a Jericho rocket or an Apache missile is flawed to say the very least. They're just like anyone else when hundreds of tonnes of bombs start landing in densely populated areas i.e. sh*t scared.

Similarly, the notion that the Israelis care a jot about Palestinian casualties is nonsense. Just because they're not engaging in total war against an unarmed population doesn't mean they give two f*cks about killing civilians. Only yesterday they flattened a beach bar full of people watching the telly. Hundreds of Palestinian children have been killed by the Israeli military. Not so long ago they facilitated the massacre of Palestinians in Lebanese refugee camps. There can be no talk of "self defence" on the part of Israel when they are busily seizing land at will, blockading Gaza to the point of privation and occupying the West Bank.

You can't blame the news. But you can blame society.

A newspaper or news website is there to make money. So they are going to pick headlines that will make more people buy papers etc. So if no one cared if Garth Brooks cancelled it certainly would not have made headlines.

So we are talking about people and society here. The harsh reality is that people are in uproar over a gig. Than people dying. All because it doesn't effect them.

Oh I know about fear, I've sat under enough IDF bombardments of south Lebanon.

About the culture of martyrdom, its real.

I take the death toll with a pinch of salt in any battle, in the last few days tbh I'm surprised its not higher than it stands.

Speaking of death tolls, one thing always stuck out in my mind from Lebanon.. No one ever died of natural causes, the IDF killed EVERYONE!!..

Now I realize a civilian in Gaza has a pretty good chance of going to paradise via an IAF rocket, but I don't believe they all do ;)

Kind of a silly thread argument. With the same reasoning you would have nothing but reports of the war in Syria, Iraq, East Ukraine conflict, countless conflicts throughout Africa.
    People want local news too

Post strangely devoid of mention of rocket fire from Gaza into Israel.

Correct, does seem a bit one sided.

That's absolutely fair enough. Garth Brooks would not be the greatest issue facing the nation though.

Regarding other wars, I've to get ready for work now but I'll leave you with this one I took home from the middle east..

"When a Christian kills a Muslim its a crusade. When a Jew kills a Muslim its a massacre, but when a Muslim kills a Muslim no one gives a f*ck"

Sad really because when the likes of Hamas persecute gays, or political opposition, or press freedom, free speech, or girls who wear jeans or kiss a boy outside of marriage no one gives a toss.. Pathetic.

    Thats rubbish.

If Israel didn't care about civilian casualties they wouldn't use expensive guided munitions, they'd do it on the cheap with dumb iron bombs and level the place and be home in time for dinner.

Then they couldn't claim the moral high ground.

Every nation, religion and grouping has more than enough racist fanatics. Thankfully, they're rarely the majority.

Clearly when it comes to selling media, it is.

Who are you to decide the priority of our issues.

It's current affairs and it doesn't really belong anywhere else. So here seems good enough, I think. It can be moved later if anyone feels it's better suited elsewhere.

You think that's bad? I just seen some woman giving out to her son in the local Centra because he kept asking for packets of sweets.

    I went over and said:

"Excuse me, but do you not realise what's happening in the middle east? Don't you think it's a trivial matter that your little tyke wants some sweeties. People are dying you stupid bitch".

Then suddenly, I was the issue. Yeah right lady. Honestly, some people eh.

No one would accept a foreign nation stealing your land and slowly ethnically cleansing them.

Palestinians are not an ethnic group. They are indistinguishable from Jordanians and other Arabs in the region. About 1.5 million Arabs live and work in Israel, the ones who don't embrace the Israeli state are being forcefully removed.

Ethnically cleansing is most definitely the incorrect term to use in this case. The Arabs have a long history of stealing land themselves and I have seen many people on here telling the British they should accept immigration because their ancestors colonised one-sixth of the planet.

Those who agree the British are getting a taste of their own medicine must also agree the Arabs are getting a taste of theirs, too - not that I agree with punishing the people of today for what their ancestors did, it's just that I've seen many liberal-types telling the British to suck it up, which is double standards.

There's no doubt the State of Israel cares more about the lives of the Palestinians than Hamas do.

yes eradicated, the jewish state wants to wipe out the palestinian population, israel have said themselves they will do what is necessary in this conflict meaning no doubt they will murder left right and centre. they want the territory and do whatever it takes to get it.

maybe not, but cleansing is certainly the correct term

Very true. But the only other big news story in Ireland I have been reading is that "Reshuffle talks resume" - with nothing else to add. Either way it's up to the media to decide what to write and the GB story is juicer, involves DCC incompetence and the Taoiseach has even been commenting on it.

I get your point, but I don't think that's actually true. Most people care if someone from any religion kills someone else. Most people don't like hearing that. But it's happening far away so we don't care as much as if it were happening in front of us.
