Status still says waiting list as well and college said all letters would be sent out soon but that they were busy after exams etc. Next week hopefully - at interview was told it could be up to 3 weeks to hear back anyway.

Yeah, unfortunately I mine says "place not offered".
I was applying as a mature student (I'm 26) and work full time as an assistant manager (which I told them) so have no recent volunteering experience so that obviously didn't go in my favour :(

Good luck to the rest of ye though and congrats to those who did get their course :)

Hey, I am very late applying (this week) I was told I have a slim to one chance as places are already been allocated from interviews held in May. I am just wondering did you have any qualifications or was it just previous experience they went on.

I have a degree in equine science but really want to do veterinary nursing. Like you I have been working full time and its not financially viable to volunteer at places. I am working on getting a car at the moment to expand my potential workplace range.

Have you thought about any other avenues?? I seen in Green Mount in Antrim they offer and apprenticeship style course. Your attend college 2 days per week and work the rest but its 2000 to do the course.

I really want to do this but its proving so difficult. :/

No, nothing. I'm afraid we won't know until September, on the website it says 'Any remaining places will be offered in August/September.' :/

I think that's for any people who are interviewed for the waiting list - I had mine last August and was told that if there was a place for me, I'd have to wait until late September

Has anybody called the college to see where they are on the list? I called last week but they werent very forthcoming with the info.
Im waiting to hand my notice in at work if I get an offer. Want to move home and save for a few months before starting college.
If I knew I was was fairly low on the list Id nearly take my chances and hand my notice in now.

Called the college today. Apparently the Animal Care team are gone as it is the end of the Academic Year and the letters are being sent out in batches. Not very helpful

Anyone got any information on the Captive and Companion Animal Studies course?

Like, how big are the classes? It's 4 days at college and 1 day at a work placement, right? What day of the week is at work?(Or when do we find out, trying to sort out something now for it)

And another, how are FETAC courses marked? Is it 100% course work, or what?

I'm doing that course.. no idea where we can find out info on it. I've still to go into the college with my pink card that says I got accepted, medical card etc. for registration pt. 2...I guess you can ask any questions you have there?

I think they sort out the work placement for us. I'm not 100% sure though, but other than veterinary clinics, there aren't much choices, and I don't want to be a vet :P But I really don't think you have to start worrying about it now

I did the canine husbandry but it was similar to the captive animal course. The classes had about 20 of us in total and work was based over coursework with exams at the end of the year. Our small animals class was 30% assessment, 30% coursework and 40% exam for instance. Only a few classes didn't have exams at the end ie customer service, internet and the work experience/communications classes
Work experience has to be sorted by yourself and you don't find out your day for it until first day of college. It's best to ring a placement and have them put you down for September and then just let them know at the start what day you're in for otherwise you're competing against all the other classes. I know ours had 2 days work experience which was impossible to sort at the last minute.

Could anyone who has done the vet nursing level 5 say what the class times / college days were like? I rang them and they said we won't know any of that til we start which isn't v useful for finding out about travel etc ...

I don't think you'll hear until the end of September tbh, that's what I was told last year when I was on it

But wont you have missed a few weeks at that point?

I had given up as I thought surely they'd have let us know by now if there was a place. How are you supposed to find a house etc. at the end of September.

Yeah, it's kind of weird. I was living in Cork at the time anyways, so if a place had become available for me then I'd have been fine, but missing a few weeks would have been really annoying. I don't really know how they expect you to find a house or anything

Just wondering, has anyone doing any of the animal care courses not found work experience yet? I'm finding it really really hard..I had a groomer's lined up, but the woman owned it wasn't really nice and gave it to someone else :/
