The dutch are playing on July 12th, all the orange men up north will be wearing dutch jerseys.

    What a bore feast.

On the plus side, I have both these teams in different sweep stakes :D
    Argentine vs. Germany so.

Wow. Well done with the penalties. Goalie did a great job.

Argentina V Germany for the third time. Nicely set up for Messi, à la Maradona of '86, or a brute-fest, à la the '90 final?

Penalties was a Krul way to lose for the Dutch.

Your man on the Telly was saying the Dutch keeper has never saved a penalty in his professional career. Surely that other lad would have been better as he actually has.

You can only play players that are on the pitch at the final whistle in penalties. He wasn't on the pitch abs they ran out of substitutions.

It's all tic tacs, they should have saved one for the keeper change, forgive the pun :p

I'd say tonights keeper complained to the coach about being substituted the last day. Coach said, "OK you save the penos today then bitch". Holland lost, Van Gall feels like a boss!

What kind of speed is the ball travelling at once it leaves the kickers foot?

    does anyone know?

I think he made other substitutions hoping they'd knick it in extra time and stop it from going to penalties.

I seriously hope this tournament is the swansong for Giles and dunphy. I was always a fan but they're well past their sell by date now. I'd hate to thing what they'll be like in two or god forbid, four, years time.

They're going nowhere apparently, Dunphy was talking about it before the tournament when he was asked for his thoughts on Bill's impending retirement.

Classic Netherlands though. They're never going to bloody well win the thing at this rate.

penalty shoot outs are a terrible way to decide a match but if the Dutch get knocked out by a penalty shoot out then its a great way to decide a match! :D
Expect a better and more open match next Sunday.

Sometimes, I'm my own worst enemy. This one's a doddle compared to the London Olympic games one. That really was a headwreck to keep track of :D

....and the winner's money is only resting in my Nigerian bank account, honest!

Argentina haven't conceded a goal in approx 375 mins or six and a quarter hours - not since Nigeria scored against them in the group stage. Quite remarkable.

Hard to call this one! For some reason I don't think it'll be close though, I've a feeling the winner will take it by 2 or maybe even 3.

That's nothing, Germany haven't conceded a goal since Tuesday, that must be 48 hours give or take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,812 ✭✭✭thelad95

It will be a terrible 0-0 and decided by a penalty shoot-out. Germany will sit deep and defend with at least 3 players around Messi at all times. Argentina will be solid if unspectacular at the back again. The stakes are simply too high to take any risks so I expect a cagey, cautious affair.

Yeah but in match terms given Brazil scored at the end that equates to about 1 minute. So that means Argentina's defence is 375 times better than Germany's. Which means they should score 375 times more goals than Germany. But obviously that is impossible if anyone scores which must by logical deduction mean that we have ourselves another scoreless game ending in a penalty shoot out.

You can argue with me but you can't argue with logic.

Germany will be well rested. They haven't had a competitive match since they beat France in the quarter-final.

Argentina to win by the odd goal in six.

    It'll be a miracle.

Scored 2 goals in the same timeframe, compared to Germany's 10.

Could be a dour final indeed, does anyone think the quality of games has tapered off over the course of the tournament? It started out promising, I know there's factors like the more evenly matched sides cancelling each other out etc but a lot of the knockout matches have been poor to watch.

When it comes to Sunday I want Argentina to win, only because I'd like to Messi lift the trophy.
