Scott Addict is good to show off to your non cycling friends.

Just wondering what you meant by this?

I'd take a look at the Scott foil with di2 in Westbrook cycles - seriously discounted at the moment.

    I've a Bianchi Sempre, I love it.

Its light and people often equate that with the quality of a road bike.

Full ultegra 6800, €2,470 well under budget and was reviewed in last months cycling plus and they liked it, if a little racy geometry wise...

Appreciate all the suggestions lads but having slept on it I think it will be a choice between the Scott or a Canyon (SLX or SL)
I've owned a Canyon before so I know how they ride, I reckon if I bought anything else I'd always be wondering how it compares to an SLX.
My first choice was the SLX but they are now out of stock which opened the door towards the Addict.
As mrs ox reminds me "you don't have to spend all the money" so the Canyon SL 7.0 @ E1600 is also in the running, it's still in stock too.
Does anyone know when the SLX might be back in stock again, is it for the Tour or later on in the year?

Have my Canyon SL two months now and its just been brilliant. So smooth on the road absorbing the bumps making the ride amazing. It added about 4km/ph to my average aswell.

I had an Addict. It was a nice bike, bit of a rocketship. Quite stiff though.

If I was looking at Scott again I might consider a CR1 or Solace. I think I'd sacrifice a bit of punchiness for a smoother ride.

Riding a superbike slowly is not a great experience.

    I'd got for this:

With the rest of your budget you could get some fairly decent wheels.

This was posted in the bargain thread last month, Wilier Zero 9 for €2500 with Ultegra

same bike but they have it in stock in both colour options. I'm giving it some serious consideration myself

Here is the Scott foil15 built up yesterday bought the wheels here of somebody that had just bought the canyon nice bike to but the foil with DI2 and wheels and finishing kit has cost me €2900 and for that money it is miles the best buy available at the moment

    I have this https://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=67318

Fantastic to ride. Stiff but comfortable. Great for racing and cruising.

I think the new Addict is more comfortable than the previous version while still retaining the speed?
I'm currently on a CR1 which is fine, just a little bit unexciting sometimes.
I'm not considering the Scott Foil as it is an out and out performance bike and a bit unforgiving.
The Addict seems to be race orientated but comfortable which sounds like what I'm after.
You're right about riding a performance bike slowly though, not a good look.
    (I average 27-28kph on a good day :()

Two interesting reviews here which I am reading and re-reading again and again.

"This same compliance adds comfort for the long haul that no SCOTT, CR1, Addict or Foil, has had before."

    http://pelotonmagazine.com/tested/a-climber-returns-the-2014-scott-addict-20/

"Canyon have struck a fine balance (and not an easy one to achieve on a lightweight race bike) between the low weight and rigidity of the frame, and a smooth ride."

    http://roadcyclinguk.com/gear/canyon-ultimate-cf-sl-9-0-sl-review.html#

    The Addict is E2499

    The CF SL is E2199

Better spec on the Canyon for sure.

Those comfort revisions to the Addict make it seem very attractive.

As I see it (having owned bikes from both companies) the problem with the Canyon is mostly prestige. I know they have pro tour bikes now, but I just have this niggling impression that the handling and quality of engineering isn't quite as sorted as Scott, who have benefited in my eyes from the images of Cav winning on the Addict - light weight but stiff enough for a world class sprinter. Of course that may be bull - stories of pro bikes being special builds with more stiffness and weight abound. Still, at this level this is mostly about buying something you want rather than need; psychology matters.

What colours are the decals on the 2014 Addict? Here they are in red. The SRAM chainrings make me want to vomit.

I like the graphics in the attachment below.
Saw it in the flesh in Wheelworx.
They're very subtle, like a stencil.

EDIT: I have a pair of Ksyriums SLs I would use instead of the stock RS11s

With 3000, I'd consider spending an extra 200 on the lower end Canyon SLX, mainly, tbh, because the SLs dont offer black saddles and bar tape on any of the models.

Most probably I'd go with the Ultimate AL SLX with Di2 for 2399, and spend the balance on spare wheels or a cycling holiday.

Also, the word ' addict ' grinds my gears. Seems you can't like anything in modern discourse without having to declare it an addiction.

Edit - you have the spare wheels already !

The Addict is one of the nicest looking bikes around. Canyon's are great and all but I think if I was dropping 3k on a bike I'd want something with a little more wow factor. When you're showing it off to your mates you should be all like "check out my ridiculously sexy new bike" rather than all "it was just such good value, I just had to get it". Just my opinion though ;)

This is slowly turning into a "What bike I can't afford" thread :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,191 ✭✭✭furiousox

Had a cunning plan while out for a spin earlier....

    1) Buy the Scott Addict, then sell my CR1 and put the proceeds from that towards buying a 105 equipped Canyon UCF SL as well.

    2) Keep the CR1 and don't buy another bike, ever.

(Option 2 suggested by Mrs ox)

Specialized Venge Comp, a bit more than 3k, but would be my choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,191 ✭✭✭furiousox

So I tried the Scott Addict but it's a bit aggressive for me.
Very light, quick and responsive but I would need all the stem spacers in place for comfort (which looks awful) so...no.
The Canyon UCF SL is still an option but if I'm honest, the currently available colour schemes leave me a bit...meh.
I'm also concerned about the sizing as the online calculator recommended I order a Small but the UK office said I should order a Medium.
I really don't want to go through the hassle of having to return the bike and exchange for a different size.

I saw a 2011 Giant TCR Advanced 2 with 105 for sale yesterday for E1450.
    (As pictured in the attachment)
I must say I do like the look of the TCRs.
How do the TCRs ride, probably not as stiff as the Canyon?

Current wishlist has been narrowed down to this...

    1) Giant TCR
    1) Canyon UCF SL
    3̶)̶ ̶F̶o̶c̶u̶s̶ ̶C̶a̶y̶o̶
    4̶)̶ ̶T̶r̶e̶k̶ ̶M̶a̶d̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶
    5̶)̶ ̶B̶i̶a̶n̶c̶h̶i̶ ̶I̶n̶f̶i̶n̶i̶t̶o̶ ̶
    6̶)̶ ̶S̶c̶o̶t̶t̶ ̶A̶d̶d̶i̶c̶t̶

You didn't look at the fondriest by any chance. They have some sweet looking bikes.

The TCR is a nice looking ride. I was admiring one on the CAS. I went to have a look at the propel(cheaper model) the colour was a bit men so I get what your saying about the canyon.

Where in Leinster stocks the Scott bikes. Wheel worx? Bianchi?
