Sony Z1 compact - bluetooth car kit

Hi all - I recently bought the sony Xperia Z1 compact and I love the phone. However I just have one problem - it will not connect to the bluetooth kit I have in the car. The car kit is a Belkin one which worked perfectly with my old Samsung. When I scan for bluetooth devices from the phone it is saying there are no bluetooth devices available.
Has anyone come across this problem? Or has anyone come across a bluetooth car kit that is compatible with the the phone?

Does your device have a special pairing sequence? I know I had problems with one recently where you had to press a certain sequence of buttons to make it visible to new devices.

However if your willing to change your head unit, I would recommend these two highly.

I personally bought the first one last week and have been using it since, with the android app on your phone it gives you total control of your stereo,bluetooth, sat nav etc from your phone. Its the closest thing Ive seen to the Android Car integration announced at the Google IO conference.

What version of software is on the phone?
The latest is 14.4.A.0.108 and has no issues with BT, previous versions had problems with BT but i didnt have any issues.
