Car from UK VRT question

Hi,
I am working in the UK at this time and was considering buying a car over there and bringing it home eventually once I got a job back home.
My question is how long do you have to be the registered owner of a car to avoid paying VRT. Or is that even possible??

in order to register an unregistered vehicle (or one previously registered outside the State) you must make an appointment with the NCTS within 7 days of its entry into the State to have a pre-registration examination of the vehicle carried out.
You must complete the registration process and pay VRT at the NCTS Centre within 30 days of the arrival of the vehicle in the State

But somewhere along the way I had heard that VRT was not payable if you owned the car for a period abroad.
In my case I'll probably own the car for minimum 6 months in the UK. Has anyone heard of this?

If you are resident in the UK and you own a car for more than six months prior to changing your residence to Ireland, you are allowed to register the car in Ireland without paying VRT. Yo still need to go through all the importation procedures and, if you sell or transfer the car within 12 months, you become liable to pay the VRT which would have originally applied.
