The posters falling over themselves to get the sly digs in at people from outside the pale aren't crowning themselves in glory either.

This is a disgusting entertaining thread all round.

    FYP :pac:

It will be interesting to see how many of the residents come out in support of this?

The childish protests out of some of the Garth side are pretty pathetic though. It's a gig, it's not the end of the world. Get over it. The people who live in the area already compromise and put up with enough with the events that are held there.

This sort of thing is just as pathetic and one sided. Why don't the residents 'just get over it' and let the gigs go ahead. It's not the end of the world.

    See how that works?

Says yer man who wont be hostage in his own home and have his life disrupted for a week so the GAA, Jim Aiken, and Garth the fart can laugh all the way to the bank with their millions!

It's not up to the residents.

A similar argument would be "why doesn't Garth Brooks get over here and do his 3 concerts"

*Croke Park only recognizes this now that the local community has (finally) grown tired of their greed and arrogance and stood up for themselves.

He's living on another planet if he thinks the 5 concerts are going ahead.Disrespectful to ignore DCC's license refusal ruling too.Show's how little Croke Park think of the city though.

Isn't that quote from last week when the Labour Relations guy made his recommendation? If so, it's probably not appropriate to bring it up now that circumstances have changed.

Ive waited all my life to see garth brooks and now i cant. Irish economy could do with the foreign people coming over here to spend their money too.

Pity the GAA and Aiken couldn't follow the law and previous agreements made then maybe you could have seen him.

I feel bad for the people who may miss out, but the organisers at Aiken and the GAA are to blame. The way they've gone about this is beyond idiotic. They've made a mess of the whole thing. Money is just the first and probably only thought for these people. I doubt they even considered anything else.

Why can't you see him, because he's threatening to cancel?

    Tough!

As it is the DCC are being more than lenient allowing 3.

They should have enforced the existing rule and not allowed any of them after the 3 1D gigs.

Where are you getting several million from?

There is a rather simple term in economics called opportunity cost which you should acquaint yourself with.

Ha ha REALLY? Explain that to me there Sage Einstein, I've never heard of such a thing and I'm looking forward to you applying it here

The only people making a fool of themselves in this whole thing are residents and their sympathisers.

I should clarify, the small number of residents acting the boll*cks not all residents.

I don't think the residents are the ones looking like fools now.
That label would be placed on the promoters and the GAA

    Legend.

“We just feel that these five particular concerts with only three weeks to go, we don’t want to be killjoys off Ireland, we don’t want to be the people who are seen to be impacting on the lives of 160,000 people,” he said.

    Completely understandable.

And Garth "if I can't play for 5 nights I'm taking my ball and going home" Brooks.

Ireland. Where legislation is hastily proposed to subvert local authority planning decisions based on pique about missing a country and western concert.

This country is full to the brim with morons, let's face it.

I just looked, can't see anything even remotely shameful.

There were lots of comments on it yesterday when I posted that comment about Dubs being scum/threats of property damage/threats of "other" damage.
So, I would consider that shameful.
Maybe the posters saw sense and removed them by now having thought better of it.

It took 349 pages but fair play to you. You found a way to blame the RCC. Now there are slates loose on my roof, can you find a way to blame them for that? Good man.

I think that was said with tongue in cheek, nothing to get upset about I'm sure

If one good thing comes out of these cancellations it's that hopefully that 3 gigs a year agreement will be done away with for good.

A small group of residents holding an 80,000 capacity stadium (which was partly funded by the taxpayer) to ransom and forcing it to be left empty while we turn international acts away is the real crime here.

Aikens or any promoter shouldn't even have to ask.

What international act have we turned away?

Actually it is the original planning permission that is the issue, and that is the Planning Permission that the greedy bástards in the GAA agreed to, thinking their Political wing (FF) would remain in power forever and change the goalposts to suit them at a later date!

Well there's this rumour about Garth Brooks.. and apparently there was an agreement where they could only hold 3 gigs a year in Croke Park

Ok, well change that then, or whatever needs to be done to open Croke Park as often as it's required.

Garth Brooks? Sure he's playing in July unless he cancels.
