I was discussing their with my mam after reading steve jobs rejected one in 2009.
She said she would reject it, but I would take one.

So would you take it or reject it ?

Sure why not? A day out to Buckingham Palace sounds grand and I'd say it'd help with the 'ould restaurant reservations...

Of course I would, who wouldn't?

It would be a great honour, and it would be nice to be recognised for my achievements by another nation.

I would. Can't see any reason not to. Just view it as a reward that cones with a title.

    No.

    I'm not English.

    I believe in equality.

I believe monarchy and titles of nobility are offensive to the idea of a monarchy.

I dislike Betty and what she represents.

And she's A queen, not the queen.

It depends you know. If I had international dealings I wouldn't. If I was just confined to Ireland and the UK I would.

I always promote to queen, never to a knight.

    Chess is a great game.

    That's what we're talking about, isn't it?

Definitely. I'm getting a little bored of my normal title

I'm not too sure. It's a good question though.

Why not? Always nice to have a society offer you their highest award. Would you refuse a trip to Paris to pick up the Légion d'honneur?

I don't think I would, it'd be pretty meaningless to me. The royals and extended monarchs are only there to be photographed at this stage.

Not a fan of queens pinning things into me.
(Probably not a good week to say that :pac:)

    I think I would not.

However, if push came to shove and I was a jaunt to London away from being called Sir forever, the strength of my conviction against the whole Knighthood nonsense might be compromised. :pac:

I dont know if I would or would not.
I suspect it is a problem I will sadly never have to wrestle with.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire sounds like a gang of pot smoking English surfers.

Yeah, I agree with you here. It's easy to say when you're 99% sure that it's implausible.

If it was on the table on front of you though, it may be hard not to compromise your views. It's not like you'd be joining an exclusive list of rebels by declining either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declining_a_British_honour#Knighthood

I should have one too for being a real Prince of Wales.

Absolutely not, an earldom is as low as I'd be prepared to accept.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

I dont think i would qualify, the trend for knighthood seems to require one to be a pedophile.

Yes, and I would drive around in a sentient car solving crimes to an 80's synth track.

Nope. The very idea of a monarchy and titled gentry is just the personification of inequality and systemic injustice.

She's just a granny who lives in a big house, I'm not bowing to anyone, especially some old woman who's never earned a thing in her life and has spent all of her life living in luxury off of the hard work of ordinary citizens.

Sure why would he want some silly old bint that he could buy out 10 times over, from a country that has nothing to do with him, to tell him he can now call himself 'Sir'?

He could have bought his own planet and call himself the Overloard.
