Alkien and GAA going ahead and selling tickets to a concert they hadn't a licence for...

blame Alkien and GAA for this scenario..

What's the GAA's involvement other than providing the venue though? was it not Aiken who decided to go for more and more?

    No

Then why on most ads you hear at the end or in small text on the screen "subject to licence"

Garth has my full support. Rules are rules, and everyone who says so is right. Besides, there should not be ANY shows, since 1D used up the license with their 3 already.

Plenty of hostility directed towards Garth right now, the only respectful thing is to wash his hands of it and move on. Let the residents and the "rules" crowd have their victory, and let Garth's fans spend their money elsewhere. There are obviously plenty who feel we're all hicks that piss on lawns, etc.

So it's a big No then..LegoLand would do a better job at organizing stuff than this kip

    Aiken, Aiken, Aiken. Only Aiken.

Speaking of Aiken, I dont expect them to be around for too long after this. Financial and reputational damage will finish them.

People seem to be forgetting the biggest victims here. What are Shane Filan and Nathan Carter going to do with themselves on those nights now?

I'd find something for Nathan Carter to do of he was at a loss. The ride

The GAA agreed to provided a venue for the extra nights, to Aiken, while the GAA more than likely knew there would be objections.

I'm sure Aiken didn't just say, **** it, lets add 2 more nights and not talk to the venue provider first.

Don't the GAA have an agreement with local residents about the amount of non-sporting events per annum? They new they exceeded this number with 3 One Direction concerts and 5 Gareth Brooks concerts..

Well the GAA knew that the residents were unlikely to accept 5 further gigs after already having the 'agreed' 3 gigs for 1D.
Yet they accepted Aiken's offer of the GB concerts.
Aiken wouldn't be selling these tickets without the GAA's consent on Croker. Or would they..... :P

This smacks of trying to add pressure, and nothing else.
It's like Aiken waiting until the last minute to apply for the licence, when they knew that they would be objections to the 5 nights.
Just hoping that the sellouts would pressure the DCC into siding with them.

If GB doesn't play the three nights, he is the one who anger should be directed at.

WRONG!!! I blame Aiken, not Garth. And I have an entire vacation planned around these shows, but will just go somewhere else if necessary. I and other Garth fans will not blame him for this. I'm sure he was sold the same bill of goods us ticket buyers were.

Just reading Garth Brooks statement. He's a nasty little bully and should be told to **** off.

    Heads should roll over this.
Both in DCC and Aiken Promotions

    And the GAA.

If brooks decides to have a pissy fit and cancel the rest of the gigs he can but he won't . It's just a tasteless act of brinkmanship against an elected Irish local authority. One thing is for sure, the residents and DCC are the only ones coming out of this not looking completely horrible.

Yep it's Garth Brooks basically trying to piss over Irish democracy.

That lawyer in the chalkstripe suit banging on about barbecues and property prices on behalf of the residents.

They can just suck it now as far as I'm concerned. 400,000 in cowboy hats should turn up anyway and yee-ha the hell out of the place.

Well, you can only blame GB of he doesn't play the three permitted gigs.

The other two gigs.....well, for me it's the GAA and Aiken.
They had to know it was unlikely that they would get the licence for them.

You said residents have a right. I said 400,000 people have a bigger right to use a building that cost the taxpayer €91 million.

    Point stands

    Bollocks.

Just face it. Ireland is changing. Like the church , the GAA can't bully who they want anymore.

As I mentioned earlier it's not possible to Appeal the DDC decision, and it states about only going to court can change it. Can't see how Aiken can bring the DCC to court about it - they haven't really got a foot to stand on.

    Statement in from Brooks

For us, it is five shows or none at all. To choose which shows to do and which shows not to do, would be like asking to choose one child over another".

Ha ha, I've never liked him but I do now. Good on him.

As should you. He has every right to back out of the 3 shows when his contract with Aiken was for 5.

I'm sure it is no expense for Garth to bring his entire crew, equipment, personnel, etc. over to Ireland, and he had budgeted for 5 shows, not 3.

Groups don't just travel overseas for free. It costs him money, and if he will lose money by doing so, it's not fault.

And he's a bully for giving you guys what you want? YOU WANTED ZERO SHOWS, and now you may get zero shows, so quit complaining and calling him a bully. I hope he cancels, and the residents can have an entire weekend of peace and quiet. That's what they wanted all along, and he's accommodating them. What a guy.

If that's a tactic to try to force dcc to change their mind I really hope they don't bow to the pressure. I feel bad for anyone who bought tickets but the promoters shouldn't have booked 5 nights if they knew they wouldn't get it. Dcc seemed to assess all the submissions and make a decision that was fair. They shouldn't be bullied afterwards, especially if the promoters could have avoided this. I still can't figure out though what is the earliest stage they could have applied for permission?

I'm starting to think that this whole affair has been a brilliantly organised joke that's slowly leading to the greatest punchline of all time.

Can be appealed under common good for starters

How much would he lose by doing three shows?
Have you got the figures for this?

He was down for playing 3 gigs at the start, the 2 were added after the tickets for the first 3 sold out. His original agreements and costings would have been for 3 days, not 5.

Surely he was willing to play three shows before the two extra ones were announced.

But you can blame him for none going ahead. He's making it out like he has to choose. He doesn't. The council chose for him. So he'd rather disappoint all Irish fans rather than some for something as you stated was not his fault and out of his control.

AFAIK there was nothing stopping them from applying at any stage.

If the decision cannot be appeal as per the DCC rules, then they can't just change their mind. Aiken can't really bring them to court for they have not contract with anyone.

The residents are in a different spot - they believe they have a contract between the Croke park and themselves - and so could go to court with that.
