they broke no agreement, they applied for the events licence as required

They broke their agreement with the residents, that's is beyond denying, only signed in 2009.
Delighted for the GAA and Aiken, hope they lose millions when GB pulls out altogether.

Maybe the GAA should pull the tickets they distribute to them for each and every match and concert.

they broke no agreement, how many times

If there is no agreement then what is the council referring to when they say

"The council also said that granting all five concerts, following on from three by One Direction in May, would have doubled the previous maximum number of concerts held at Croke Park per year"

You mean the ones they have to pay for anyway?

they broke no agreement, how many times

Oh but they did, and even the Greedy Assholes Association accept that they made that agreement.

Speechless....... They didn't seek money..... they were insulated when money was offered..... they turned down money.... they just want the GAA to stick to the agreement........

If dubs wanted to hold a extra match they would not complain

they broke no agreement, how many times
How many times? They broke it once, that's how many times.
Hence the gigs got cancelled. Quite simple really. Or is it?!

The planning permission for the expansion of Croke Park included a proviso that would allow a maximum of 3 concerts per year before applying for an events licence.

i'l keep saying it as its the actual case, if it was 3 and no more, these concerts wouldn't be going ahead
    Who's broken the agreement here?

    nobody

they weren't "standing up for themselves their homes and families"

Yes they were, and they did a great job too.
They won't get walked on in future.
the GAA and promotors weren't greedy

    Really?
they don't want croke park to be used unless they get some of the proffits themselves

It has been mentioned numerous times that it's not about money

They can't. The GAA can have as many GAA matches as they want.
They cannot have as many concerts as they want.

If the Dubs wanted to hold five matches in a row late at night to the sound of redneck noise then the residents would indeed complain I can assure you.

Yeah, the hard to come by tickets for much sought after gigs and games at face value. You get Nothing for Nothing Baby!

Yeah, the hard to come by tickets for much sought after gigs and games at face value. You get Nothing for Nothing Baby!

So they should stop making them pay and start making them pay.

    Genius.

No dude, they just don't give them the opportunity to get them so easily and put them on the market where everyone else gets them...Baby!

    Pull the strings!!

what time do the concerts finish - 10.30? big deal.
every hotel booked out, hape of tourists in ,every taxi n pub hopping and a fortune spent in town.
pull the plug garth n stick them on in the uk. less begrudgers n nimbys n their economy needs it more!
a few of irelands 400k on the scratcher could even get a weeks work over there out of it!

8 nights so, feck all nights in other words. If nobody slept a wink for 8 nights out of 365 with 4 of the nights being weekends it wouldn't be a big deal.

I hope you remember that when your brain surgeon hasn't slept properly 5 nights running before he operates on you.

They broke the agreement, end of story. Just get over it.

so they should put them into a scenario where they have a random chance of getting tickets at face value?
How's that different to the raffles they have now?

Seems obvious to me that Aiken signed a contract with Garth Brooks for him to play five dates here. Now that they're looking to renegotiate it down to three gigs, he's not up for it.

This will end up in the courts between Brooks and Aiken.

You're missing the point, the residents scored a victory today and made the promoters think twice about trying that again.

no they didn't, the promotors got away with it, they have a precedent of 7 concerts in one year now

Not when the original planning permission expressly stated 3 a year.

3 a year before applying for an events licence.
Delighted that the council has set down a marker and defended the rights of the residents against the unbridled arrogance and greed of the GAA and Aiken!

the council didn't do this to "defend the rights of the residents against the unbridled arrogance and greed of the GAA and Aiken" they did it for an easy life and a form of compromise. but the residents just want more and more.
Serve them right if Brooks pulls out completely,

no, more people lose out then residents.
might teach the arrogant feckerss some respect for the community.

it will teach no such thing, it will teach them to take a fully anti-residents stance and will finish any good will to the community, the residents have done this to themselves, a few extremists have cost everyone, fans, the economy, and have possibly ended the good will from the GAA toards the community.

There are no "brain surgeons" living or complaining there I assure you. Just a load of twats doing it for a payout.

For Gods sake, This is NO where near the first time agreements with the residents were broken. But this was the Golden Goose. Bluffs were called. If all 5 concerts are called off, as legally they should be, watch this space for some massive reversing....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,316 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

How about 3 concerts a year, and

    No free GAA tickets
    No free concert tickets
No money towards any community projects

    ?

This must be a first for Aiken and co.

They've been creaming it for yonks, and good luck to them. They provide a service that's big business.

But on this occasion, To publicise and sell tickets for gigs that didn't have a license was a bit.... Well....put a name on it!

No I get it, wouldn't be that much more difficult though.

Or we could just penalise promoters who choose to ignore planning regulations?

no, because promotors don't ignore planning regulations.
If DCC let them away with it, what's to stop them doing the exact same next year?

let them away with what? applying for the events licence as legally required? nothing to stop them applying for a good few gigs next year as it is
    Nobody broke any agreements.

exactly, no agreements were broken, no "historical norms" some years had concerts others didn't, some had a few others had 1

Is this practice not done the world over. Subject to licence and all that.
