The arrogance from Peter Aiken is incredible. Knew he was breaking the agreement and still felt he'd get away with it. Delighted the residents stood up to him.

They got greedy, took a risk, didn't pay off.

All the gigs would have been approved if they could have come to an agreement with the RA's.

That has to go down as one of the understatements of the year.
    No, thats completely different.

Its more of a formality, promoters and organisers know (on paper) the events will be approved by whatever council so they go ahead with promo and sales.

Sure the licences for some of the Marley gigs where still listed as pending on Monday...

True but there is a massive difference between holding concerts in Marley Park and in Corker in terms of disruption to residents

    Never going to happen.

I wonder if we'll see a decrease in stadium gigs and an increase in park gigs as a result

Only if they bought the tickets direct. Anyone that bought through touts will lose their money.
You are correct I think. But most people will get their money back so storm in a teacup really.

    Source?

Heard it announced on the TV behind me on RTE news. Garth cannot now confirm any gigs will be going ahead.

I blame the residents here, they live next to Croke Park, what did they expect, just typical NIMBYism, I hope the GAA ends all deals with them and take an anti-residents stance. These guys get tickets for everything and the majority of scalpers we see on big event days are fed tickets by these "wonderful people" you see living around Croker. Dublin City Council should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for even giving these guys the time of day.

People have spent huge sums of money and these people already get compensated yet they want more. What is needed here is to give the residents the same treatment as was dished out to the crusties above in Mayo who tried blocking the Gas Pipeline. The Consumer should come first before the interests of some two bit residents association and the left-wing Sinn Fein city council.

Ever time I read comments like this, I feel a little happier that the residents got their deserved win

The arrogance of the residents more like it ruining the enjoyment of so many people. He should have got the licences it's a travesty that it wasn't granted.

Also literally stealing money out of people's pockets with the millions being lost in the local economy.

I can see both points of view - the residents and the fans. I just think the decision taken (to reduce the concerts from 5 to 3) was a bit too late for all concerned.

The planning permission for the expansion of Croke Park included a proviso that would allow a maximum of 3 concerts per year. Who's broken the agreement here?

How are the residents at fault?

    "Bomb the residents"
"Kick the mirrors off their cars"
"Go and cause havoc in the area"

After reading all of that ^^^ and more I couldn't be happier that those gigs were cancelled.
You lot are really showing your true colours now.
    Nice.

    It gets worse..

The residents objected to the use of a helicopter being used to film the concerts and he must be off stage by 10:30pm on the Sunday. Whatever about the curfew, the fact that they cannot film aerial shots of the gig and the crowd arriving etc, make it a farce. Like him or loathe him, this is the guy's comeback concert and he has chosen this stadium out of all others that he could have picked, including many in his own country and he has this crap to deal with. I wouldn't blame him if he pulled out of all gigs and played Madison Square Garden (or similar) instead as this is just taking the piss.

Ah stop, that's mean. There was a happy medium met today with two being cancelled. For all to be gone would be majorly unfair.

Problem I see here is will this now put off major concerts from going ahead in the future, Some major bands and so on may just see it's not worth the possible hassle coming here.

"Kick the mirrors off their cars"
Putting quotations around a comment doesn't mean someone actually said it.

You should have a check of what the word 'literally' means, because it definitely doesn't mean what you seem to think.

This argument is rubbish anyway, would it be acceptable to have concerts on 365 days a year? Saying no is stealing money from the local economy...
