I've recently changed from Eircom efibre to Vodafone fibre.

Vodafone have taking over my home phone side of things but my broadband is still active with Eircom.

I have received the Vodafone modem in the post, for my broadband to be changed to Vodafone will Vodafone be able to take over the port my line is connected to at the cabinet or will my line need to be manually moved to new port used by Vodafone ?

Eircom modem still syncing so I connected my Vodafone modem which also synced and connected using the Vodafone login details.

I was giving a different IP address (was a 95.x.x.x) now I'm getting a 86.x.x.x which is still a eircom IP I've also being assigned the standard eircom DNS servers.

I've also trace routed to boards and still getting routed through the eircom network.
I've also synced at the same profile of 50/15 but my line attenuation dropped from 22 -> 14.

Can anyone make sense of this ?

Port is still configured for eircom as the line op.

Cabs arent LLU and I really doubt they'd divvy up cards between line ops. In fact Im pretty sure they havent. So it should be an in situe handover. The port will just be updated, you'll lose sync for 2 mins and itll come back with a vodafone IP.

Are you using PPPoE not IPoE?

When I changed from one provider to another it was a total and utter mess. I was without fiber going on 6-8 weeks.

    What direction was the change?

I'm hoping since it's Eircom --> Vodafone it might go smooth enough.

Still watiting over a month to change from eircom efiber to vodafone efiber.

They both seem to be blaming each other even though I'm ringing every second day.

What had to happen in the end for you to get changed.

My eircom broadband is gone off now so I'm left with nothing.

That's a very poor show being left with no BB at all. Shame on all concerned!

There's reconfiguration needed but it's all done in software. Nothing physical. They just route traffic to Vodafone instead of Eircom. It would be handed over at the nearest location.

If only it was that simple. They now want me to go on a DSL package and then upgrade to fibre even though my line is already syncing with the cabinet at 50/15 just not getting an IP.

I don't even think DSL will work as the line coming from the exchange is filtered at the cabinet split point as far as I know.

Correct. When they patch you at the cab the ADSL signal is filtered off and then later on the DSLAM is disconnected from the line.

TBH this all sounds like eircom wholesale havent set up the processes required for NGA ports. You would be some of the first few 18Month+ users who have the option to change.

Cork sounds like you're still on port X but theyve assigned you port Y during the transfer and thus you cant authenticate. 5 minutes at the cab with a eircom tech and you should be up and running.

I was thinking the same very little people would be out of contract at the moment so there wouldn't be that many migrations.

Changing providers shouldn't be this difficult. But to be fair our phone did go over smoothly within 3 days of placing the order.

Vodafone are persistent that we must place a DSL order first. Im going to leave this go through even though my modem won't connect hopefully the wholesale ordering system will say I have an active DSL account which will hopefully allow them to upgrade my account to fibre.

If you're going that route you'll get a new port on the cab so make sure they dont skip the appointment step when you're upgrading.

Do you think they'd actually remove me from the cab if I order DSL or would set procedures likely not be in place for such a migration.

I was hoping they'd leave me on the same port and once the fibre order was placed the port would become active.

When you change providers for DSL your line is downgraded to a POTS line, handed over, then DSL is reprovided on it. In this sense the line "resets" for lack of a better word.

When you changed your line was probably assigned a new port (thus no auth). Say you're connected to Port X, and assigned port Y for vodafone. Port X is now configured as "Available", Port Y is reserved for you. When you downgrade to DSL Port Y will be released into the available pool too. Then they'll order VDSL again, and the system will pull a free port from the pool and assign it to you, unlikely to be the same one, so call that Port Z.

Whats also worth noting is that if any of your neighbours order VDSL in the meantime they may get assigned port X which you're currently on and you'll lose sync when they are connected, not that itll make much difference.

Have fun being the guinea pig for all this

I can really see this migration taking another few weeks to get sorted.

I'll be sure to document the process when I'm fully sorted.

Complain to ComReg sounds like they've not got to the stage where anyone is swapping providers.

Just an update today my DSL broadband activated at the system level, obviously no sync at modem.

Vodafone were then able to place an order for fibre broadband which they claim should activate in 24 - 48 hours.

Not sure about this if my port on the cabinet has changed but we'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭Cork981

It's getting worse and worse now customer care can't place the order for fiber because my modem isn't working with DSL broadband and they keeping saying it has to work for a fiber order to be placed.

They keep ignoring the fact that it's not going to work as I'm connected to a cabinet and the modem is syncing at 50/15 but just no authentication.

The representive just got arrogant and said to try it after 4.

He also confirmed our account is only set up for DSL but DSL signals are filtered out at the cabinet which I'm connected to so won't reach my house.

Now I'm stuck waiting till 4 today to prove it's not going to work before I can do anything else.

    Update 2

We now have a technician calling out next Wednesday morning.

Not sure is this is no remove our line from the cabinet so DSL broadband will work to to move our line to a new port on the cabinet.

Still waiting for my broadband to be activated since June by vodafone.

We sat around all day waiting for the engineer to call who did not show up.

    Got this text last week.

    "Dear X,
Thank you for choosing Vodafone Broadband. An engineer will visit you between 12:30-16:30 on the 06/08/2014 to set up your service. To change this appointment simply call 1907. Please do not attempt to connect your new modem before the engineer has completed their work"

Sat around all day for waiting for a call out and no one showed.

We rang vodafone who said the order got stuck, they could have rang to inform us no one was going to show up.

It has now been escalated for the 50th time.

This is ridiculous waiting for broadband to be activated since June.

unbelievable!! you should get a free year and be freed from whatever contract you are signed up for. I was in same boat last year so complained in writing, got 2 months credit, and freed from a 12 month contract. But it has been ace ever since and I don't fancy eircom or others!! I did not leave VF.

Still no broadband as of today.

Expecting a phone call today at some point.

    Today's update.

Was promised a call yesterday from vodafone with an update on the problem and got no call.

So rang customer care today and all they said was they'll have to escalate it again.

It has being escalated countless times and when I ring back all they say is they'll escalate it again.

It's being June now since I've ordered broadband and still nothing.

Broadband finally activated today. I'm now syncing at better rates than I was with eircom so that's certainly a good start.

To be fair to vodafone it did appear to be Eircom dragging there heals as they did have problems with my account before I left them.

Vodafone have also being extremely appolegetic about the whole problem and have compensated me on my bill for the troubles.
I also found there customer care to be a lot more help and informative than other telecom operators.

I'm just glad I finally have broadband again.

Just to note I didn't have to be changed port on the cabinet in the end they must have just reconfigured the port.

log into your vodafone at home account and click orders. i can nearly assure you that its vodafones problems with the way they handle orders when your moving from one provider to another, this is my order history with vodafone after been ran around the same way you where.

i ordered upto 100mb fiber in late may early march, took them weeks to install a new line that wasnt needed as the line i already had was only 6 months old, no talking to them about that. a few weeks later i get a installer who tells me hes here to install a phoneline i didnt order or want, 2 weeks later dsl that i didnt order went live so rang them up saying hey it was fiber i ordered and they then fobbed me off saying its what i ordered in the first place. nearly a month later after reordering i get my fiber installed.

also keep a eye on your bill if you signed up to broadband only like i did, ive been charged for 3 months call packages on top of my bill and i dont even have a active phone line

look at all these **** ups on their part
