yes player exchanges never go down well with the player being exchanged, egos and all that. Player feels undervalued and usually kicks up a fuss.

remember real Madrid tried to offer us robinho when they were signing Ronaldo, robinho wasn't one bit happy

I can't say we would have been delighted with that either.

Something that he and Suarez have in common.

I dont think Suarez is a liability. His goals , skills, team work and effort out weigh his bad publicity in my opinion.

Like a modern day Cantona of sorts. Has his bad side and its truly bad, but Id have him in my team anyday

Getting off topic though, this is a United thread.

Lets be realistic, he does. 2 different players but with a lot in common.

He's a liability. Cantona was becoming a serious liability at one stage, until he cleaned up his act for good. He was a model professional after his ban. Suarez has already had a couple of bans, and still went and bit a player in a world cup match. Madness.

    Anyways, who'd our next signing>? :o

Cantona was getting it from all angles when he did his infamous kung fu kick, being called a thug and a man who couldn't control his actions on a pitch.

He had great talent and skill and backed it up with his goals and some great performances.

The comparison is a fair one. Both amazingly talented and both had their discipline problems

I think some United fans forget the bad side and only remember the good, but we were in the similar situation as Liverpool are with Luis Suarez.

As I pointed out eariler, cantona got a hefty ban and turned his career around. Suarez got a couple of bans and did it again on a bigger stage.
    There's a difference.

New ad released for the new home kit. No reveal, just a tease

Please no more Suarez, it is getting in the way of rumour, drooling about the thought Vidal could move to United, false twitter postings, LVG appreciation and other United stuff like how awful the new kit is even if we haven't seen it on the players...

    Our next signing will San-dal.....
They've gone Chile on any offers not coming directly from Ed..
Ed's been wrapping the deals up since Saturday

I see the difference, but Eric was no angel. He was my fav player growing up though.

He liked to stamp on opponents more than once and then kicked a fan. Just as bad as Suarez, though very different actions. Its debatable whether Cantona learned his lesson but its obvious Luis didnt.

I wasnt trying to derail this thread into a Luis Suarez thread, I just think that we were once in a similar situation with Eric. Ill say no more

I've put in a new chrome extension that replaces "Suarez" with "he who shall remain nameless"

I have a confession to make.

I took mine after a former Man City player from mid 90's who scored a winning goal against Blackburn in a time when I thought would result in United winning league.

So Blackburn won the league, I took a Man City players confession name and well the Kew Tour was anything but.

actually maybe your right Rosler getting the winner, its actually Paul Walsh.

*just realised he played for Liverpool too.

    oh dear..

I have made better choices in my life I admit:p

Gary Walsh was not option as no Gary was a Saint back then(i think you had pick saints name)

I can think of one very important distinction between the Cantona and Suarez situations.

Why did Alex Ferguson stand by Eric Cantona when many people felt that he had gone too far and should be let go? It wasn't just because he was an important player, but also because Eric Cantona had a deep and abiding love for Manchester United, he was on record many times stating how much the club meant to him and he bought into the United culture completely. Don't forget, this is the guy who retired early rather than move abroad and rekindle his desire for football elsewhere, he didn't want to play for anybody but United.

Alex Ferguson clearly saw that if he stood by Cantona there was a high likelihood that Cantona would learn his lessons, that he would make the effort to stay out of trouble and repay the faith shown. And he was right.

Liverpool are now in a similar situation with Suarez, he has been banned again and what are they going to do with him? But does anybody think Suarez has the same love and loyalty to Liverpool that Cantona had to United? No chance.

    +1

and anybody who says different was either not old enough to remember, or just want to twist it.

never once back in 1995 did I fear Cantona would leave.

even Ronaldo was open enough to admit it that he wanted to play for Madrid.

it annoyed some United fans and others again tried twist that story, but I actually gained more respect for Ronaldo then when he admitted it.

at least he was honest enough to say he wanted out.
