what kind of modem do they supply for their fibre broadband? am I thinking correctly it's just a regular VDSL and I can get whatever modem I want instead? or are they like UPC and just don't want other equipment connected to "their" line?

    Modem supplied is huawei hg658c.
I have it running since December and haven't had any issues with it.
If you decide to go with your own, make sure if supports Vectoring
Other users here have chosen to use it in bridge mode : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057006124
