Actually, come to think of it, that van was feckin' bulletproof. Do Iveco make cars (under a different name, perhaps)?

    No they don't :)

You see diesels only really become economical when they can settle into a rhythm, I'm not sure your driving allows that.
By all means fire ahead but I don't think it suits you myself.

My bmw goes from Laois to Dub and back daily, it loves that.
If I were more locally based would I have a 530d? Not a chance!

To be honest, any improvement over the 22mpg I got off the Rav will be a welcome change. It'll be unfortunate if this change is quickly depleted by a car falling apart on me, but I really want to try a diesel just to have my own first hand experience.

I might hate it, I might love it. Might cost me a fortune, might save me a fortune.

My first car was a 1.4 petrol 2000 focus that I got for €950. It's still mechanically fine (bought in March 2013, drove for 3 months and gave to my dad. Still going strong). Then I got the Rav, 1.8 petrol SUV, drove for a year, never even hinted at a bit of trouble. So I figure a diesel 1.6 would be a nice 'something different', and i want my next car to be a cheap to run one, so I'm willing to give it a shot.

Then I'll more than likely sell this next year and go for something different again (something rear wheel drive, for the change, perhaps). Eventually I'd like to have an estate, van, 4wd, etc. just to experience a few different types of vehicle.

Yep Iveco is part of fiat. People don't realise how big fiat is until they go digging. It isn't just fiat, alfa, lancia, Ferrari, Maserati and the Chrysler group. There's a massive agricultural section to it as well (CNh and new holland). Then you've got the power train section. Not to mention magneti Marelli, comau and la stampa.

Oh and the Agnelli family own juve

Car searching is so stressful :(

It took me three attempts to find the right one.

One sold before I could test-drive it.
One was in utter rat-arse condtion with compression issues. And clutch-whine. And monstrous wear and tear in the cabin.
And the third I stumbled across on a thread here on Boards, and bought and owned within 3 days.

Sometimes, it just happens that way.

I don't think this requires it's own thread so I'm going to ask you fine folk here - I'm picking up items to wash the car at home and I've come across some very handy advice on use of chamois cloths, two bucket use etc.

My main query is this - how often should I use Autoglym super resin polish on my car? Am I correct to assume it's okay to wax the car after every wash & then buff it with a micro-fibre cloth? If so then do you have any recommendations from Halfords (one around the corner from me) - thinking of going for a run of the mill Turtle Wax for black cars

Any other tips ye might have for home car washes would be appreciated :)

Post in the car detailing section, the OCDers folks there will point you in the right direction.

Will do - I just thought if I put something up there I'd be told to get some sort of Hybrid African bees wax for €125 per tub to apply to the car every 4 hours for optimal results :pac:

Well, I guess you might be right. The car I want to get is very rare, but I have my mind set on it. None of them DoneDeal right now, but hopefully when I get enough money, one will magically appear for sale. :D

Offered him 6 but he said it's to low and that he spent more than that on it.

I liked the Mazda 3 I found. Was on the road to the dealer this morning. Rang him to let him know I was on the way. "Sorry, it sold already".
