Ok so I have Maynooth down as third choice on my CAO behind two UCD courses but I have a feeling I won't have the points for UCD so I'll probably end up in Maynooth. Anyway I have a few questions.

    1. I won't know anyone going to Maynooth so is it easy to make new friends? I'm quite an out-going person and plan on joining some clubs + socs.

    2. What's access to Dublin like timewise? Would people venture into Dublin for nights out or stay local. I presume there are decent spots in Maynooth (sorry I know I sound like a total noob :o )

    3. I didn't apply for accommodation until fairly late so I'm now in the lottery for first year students. Does anyone who has experience with this know if I'm likely to be offered campus accommodation?

    4. My guidance counsellor told us that exams in Maynooth can be trickier than other college. In her words it's ''easy to get into, hard to get out of''. Is she talking rubbish or is there a degree of truth to this?

Sorry if I'm rambling. All replies appreciated :D

    1. I was the exact same, coming in knowing no one. Clubs and socs, met loads of people who are now still very good friends of mine.

    2. Train can take between half an hour and forty five minutes, they go pretty regularly. The bus takes about twenty minutes longer on average.

    3. Lottery is as it says a lottery, so you have as much a chance as anyone.
Most people (including myself) don't apply till after they get their LC results so I wouldn't worry about being at a disadvantage.
Note: If you obtain an entrance scholarship (get over 525 points in LC) a room on campus is held for you if you want it, you obviously still pay as normal.

    4. Couldn't tell you, depends on your subjects I suppose. However I've found college exams can be easier to deal with than secondary school ones as long as you prepare fully.

I've seen your rambling and raised you even more rambling, hope some of it helps and a bit of it is even somewhat relevant

There's only one big toilet, and they make you all go at the same time.

    1. Making friends is easy in Maynooth, even I managed it and I hate people. UCD is rubbish, don't go there. Every single solitary one of the guys there bar none put the collars on their t-shirts up and wear fake tan and sound like donkeys and that is no exaggeration whatsoever at all. Hell with that place.

    2. Dunno, I commute to Drogheda. Commuting isn't fun.

    3. Dunno.

    4. She's a lying liar. But besides that, depends on you, how much work you put in, how much you like the subject. The less interest you have, the more like work and a terrible drudge a course and its study will feel like. So if you pick subjects you love, it won't seem like work so much, and it'll be easier to study for and therefore pass.

In Maynooth? That's definitely covered on campus.

The Wifi is covered anyway, but the utilities are taken out of your deposit on campus, so technically no, they're not included in the rent.. which is mad considering how much they charge for the rooms in the first place.. :pac:

Sorry, that's what I meant. I always just considered the deposit more of the rent. Actually getting some of it back is a bonus! :D

With the way rent is going in Maynooth these days the price of campus isn't really that bad anymore. People seem to be paying more which isn't great.
