    Meanwhile in Donegal

What really is actually going on in Donegal? Why are 95% of the DL reg cars I see battered to ****e and falling apart, or lowered and covered in cringey stickers?

Anytime I ever see a DL reg it always has something to roll your eyes at.

Why is it so common there?

And who spins around in circles like an idiot, in front of a Garda station that has a big camera pointed at the car park?

Just ran over a pheasant a while ago, first major road kill - wasn't looking at the road  (back country road) and heard a thud, thought something fell off the car, look in my mirror and a ball of fur was rolling down the road. Hopped around for about 10 secs and then died :( I did the decent thing..... and kicked it into the ditch :pac: Don't think I've any damage done to the car, but then again I was in the 206, so I don't care as much :P

    Riveting stuff, I know!

Just because it's DL reg doesn't mean the owner lives there, maybe the owner has never even been there. For example my car is Dublin reg but I live nowhere close to it.

A DL reg would have spent time there in the past too though.

Doesn't really matter, it's still DL reg'd cars that seem to be the ones that can't help but be lowered, stickered and spoilered.

It really is almost every DL reg car I see, or if I see a car and feel like rolling my eyes, it's almost always a DL reg when the license plate comes in to view.

There's obviously something going on over there, that I can't quite figure out. Is there a big boy racer scene there or something (and once they've worn the bollocks out of the cars, they sell them on to the rest of the country?)

I seen a lovely BMW the other day. Not sure what kind, exactly, but it was black, could be a more recent 5 series (they all look similar to me). Looked like the kind of car a well-to-do person would have. Very classy and professional looking.

But it had silly number plates with a ridiculous font (the plates actually looked cheap, too), a ridiculous 'visor' on the windscreen, a silly exhaust tip and a couple of stickers on the back of the car on the left (and possibly one or two on the rear window, but could be wrong on that).

Even the wheels on it looked nice (as in not sh*te you'd get for €100 on adverts). It wasn't lowered either.

Not sure why someone would do that to such an otherwise lovely looking car.

Is it just something to do with perhaps DL reg cars selling cheaper (so johnny can spend less on the car itself and more on his halfords kit to 'pimp it out')?

My dad has a 13 reg 1.6TDCi Mondeo as a Company Car. Engine crapped out on him a few weeks ago with about 60K on it. If I remember correctly the injectors had to be replace. This would've cost about 5-600 I think but obviously the company covered it. Other than that he finds it pretty good, it's very refined and quiet for a diesel.

He finds it less economical than his previous 1.9TDi Superb Mk2 and that's even with 10hp more and less weight to drag around.

Thanks, so would I be better opting for the 2.0tdci 140/163 bhp?

I really hate the term Boy Racer.

As for the rings outside the Garda station, it hilarious but also incredibly stupid.
Rings in a private yard are win win, good laugh and a great way to use tyres that would fail the NCT.

You'd want to be a certain kind if special to do it outside the station though but I'm glad some one is.

Yup, two years back I think.
Was a good crowd at it, 3 loud yank tanks and an even louder Civic. :p

I'd a personality test in work recently and apparently I'm quite analytical (yet own an alfa)

My car is going in to the mechanic for a big service next week, and I'm already compiling a list

    It includes:

    1. replace spark plugs (please find replacement plugs in dash)
    2. Check accelerator tension, it appears loose
    3. Replace master cylinder on clutch pedal (part in passenger footwell)

All in all, there are about 12 things listed to be done/checked.

Seems I can't get away from that personality profile!

The plugs are simple to do....the master cylinder on the other hand. That's an awful job

Does the "Save Ad" work for anyone else on DoneDeal? Whenever I click it nothing happens, it just changes colour.

It's 50km/h from the pedestrian crossing you just passed. So, not 30 there. Perhaps they're looking to catch those who go a little bit faster than 50 there.

The gardai were having a field day at college green today. Lots of cars trying to go through at rush hour. They'd setup a lane with cones and were directing them through. They looked to be writing up everyone. :D I don't know what kind of penalty that would incur. Any idea?

They are there every morning and every evening ! I walk past them twice a day catching people out going both directions.

After going past them yesturday morning I saw a bloke at the top of grafton street wearing a boards t-shirt..... it was very strange !

Just going now to do a safe pass course such a waste of a Saturday :( could have been cleaning my car or something constructive. The course was boring the first time I can only imagine what it will be like this time.

Safe pass isn't all that bad but it depends a lot on the instructor. The lax attitude to safety in this country by a sizeable chunk of contractors means it's all too often the only safety training a lot of people get. But then again those people are always indestructible:rolleyes:
