    Hi all,

A mate has the below build and wants to replace the GPU and RAM, he's sticking in a GTX 660 but wants to upgrade to 8GB RAM.

    Q9550 @2.8ghz with 12mb cache.
    4gb 2x2gb corsair ddr2 800mhz 4-4-12.
    Asus P5Q deluxe motherboard.

What the best option on the RAM, buy another set of the above and use all 4 slots or buy 2 x 4GB sticks?

If 2 x 4GB sticks has anyone any suggestions on which ones, not to familiar with DDR RAM for this motherboard.

    Thanks in advance.

Just buy the same again and use the other slots free.

Yea, same again is probably safest bet - though might be difficult finding, depending on age (probably at least 4-5 years old?)

otherwise new pair of 4Gb modules imo. Can get 800, 1066, or 1200mhz (DDR2) on that board afaik, but no real performance benefit from that I believe (just more options for when you're pricing sticks). 800 or 1066 probably best bet

Memoryc have a tool on their website to see what the best for is for your machine. Crucial have one too which is good.
