Hi. I am new to Boards but hope someone can help.

the last few weeks I have dark brown rust coloured dust around the toilet area of bathroom - a thick layer forms in one day. (all white tiling in bathroom so very obvious!)

I have tried blocking air vent to see if it was coming from outside - no dust on the paper that i covered vent with. I have kept windows closed and it still happens. recently had toilet unblocked by a drain company as i had used 2 large bottles of drain blocker which didnt work - is it possible if have some iron corrosion in the sewage pipes ?? Its just weird!!!

    Grateful if someone could help

    Thanks

    Anne

Is there rusty hinges on the toilet seat?
Is there rust on the flush handle shaft that goes into the cistern?
Is there rust underneath the cistern?
Are the screws securing the bowl to the floor rusty?
Is there a radiator close to the toilet that's rusty? Particularly near the bottom of the radiator.

    Hi

the washers holding the cistern to wall are rusty and the screws at base of bowl are more old than rusty. no radiator near the toilet - no other "rust" except the rust dust which is all over floor area and on the window sills and all surface areas near the loo. this never happened before - just seems to have co-incidently started since the drain company were here. the waste pipe coming out of the toilet bowl is ancient - only a little of it is visible and painted and the rest of it is behind a tiled boxed off area.

i suppose i could check with the drain company if this is a common occurrence.....

if you have any ideas i would be most grateful

    :-)
