Would anybody know if an artisan golfer can enter an open competition at another club and win a prize. I was always under the impression that artisan handicaps were not recognised by the GUI. Incident recently where an artisan played in an Intermediate Scratch Cup and was awarded a nett prize.

A artisan golfer being someone that is a member of a club that's associated with another golf course/club?

I think the K Club have an artisan club attached to it?

As far as I know those guys have GUIs.

As an ex-artisan, I was of the understanding that the GUI acknowledged the Artisan's Association as being operated bone fide under the rules of golf.

I think Artisans can play if the host clubs accepts their handicap on face value, but Artisans do not possess a GUI swipe card with their handicap record attached as their membership is not computerised.

Artisan golf was great back in the days when golf was very elite and most of us had no arse in our trousers. Today the Artisan Association still exists but sadly with less clubs and an aging membership, however long may they continue as they are a great way of playing golf on a limited budget.

Our club has quite a few handicap artisans.

Some are real Master Craftsmen and able to more or less shape any handicap they wish to have up or down about 4 shots - of both persuasions: guys who can play to 10 nursing careful 14s, or guys off 7 whos game hardly merits even 10.

Some great skills on display, when to play/when not, point one collection timing judged pefectly for the big prize events, just managing enough cards in a year to ensure they are eligible for next years teams, etc.
