That was some good refereeing. He made a great call on the penalty too.

Well deserved win for Costa Rica. Lovely to watch even though I lost a tenner because of them!

RTE are describing this like it's a shock.

    I'm not sure how.

I wouldn't have fancied Uruguay to progress from this group at all.
Aside from Suarez & Cavani, Uruguay's weakness was well known.

Also as an aside, the atmosphere at these games is ten times better than 4 years ago.

Thats cos you can hear it…….its not drowned out by the constant drone of hordes of africanised honey bees.

True, but the locals seem pretty enthusiastic compared to SA.

They struggled to get locals to attend matches in SA despite giving tickets away for free. I remember reading somewhere that FIFA actually paid people to go to games there.

There's still a lot of empty seats at some of the games in Brazil but the people there seem a lot more up for it.

I dread to think what a shambles it will be in Qatar.. with its population of 2 million.

I doubt that World Cup is even going to go ahead tbh.

Interesting, I didn't know that, why?

was there just not enough of them or is the sport just not that popular there or people too poor to travel from neighbouring african countries etc

Was it that they just couldn't stand that god awful fooking sound

It will probably depend on whether or not Blatter is reelected, and he's after 'handing' a fcukload of extra money to virtually every national football association.

I honestly really hope it does go ahead. Fifa deserve the embarrasment and the Qatari rulers deserve to be made look like complete failures.

The UN should be enforcing very strict laws on how they treat labourers between now and then.

Tempted to take Italy draw no bet at 11/10. They have better ball retention which will be important in the heat/humidity, and Englands defence is far from great.

No idea what's gonna happen in this game so I put a fiver on Cerci to score first. I'm ashamed to admit it but having a wee bet on makes watching these games 10 times more exciting.

Interesting fact, if one team lets a goal in the other team will be winning.
