Nice car infairness shows it's mileage in places but that's to be expected. Tbh the only thing I could think of for that whole video is how long the oil light stayed on for once the engine was switched on. As far as I know that's a sign that the car is struggling to build oil pressure and could mean bad seals ie on the cylinders and that it may be burning a lot of oil. I could well be wrong though maybe it takes longer to go out on e46's I don't know but still 5-7 seconds your engine is running without have the correct optimal oil pressure and even at that it was warm in the video. I could be talking absolute crap though maybe I'm too use to diesels and petrols take longer to build oil pressure.

Sorry for posting about it it's just the first thing that hit me as being unusual also I never realised it was an auto thought yours was a manual for some reason is imagine its nice to drive around town in.

It's looking that way :( I'm getting new discs anyways so i'll see tomorrow what way to tackle it
Oh no, that would be too easy, everything around the brake set up is torqued on to within an inch of it's life, I would have loved some air tools today, but I managed, i can do anything now :pac:

Those don't usually come with a set of discs though, AFAIK. You're mostly supposed to use the old one.

Set of easy outs is what ya need!

What year did they stop making the mk5 transit, 00 was it?

Did you get it sorted, I'm confused now.
    Nope I didn't I'll attack it tomorrow
Every brake disc locator screw Ive had to remove has needed drilling out, people never put any anti seize on them. I ordered an impact screwdriver yesterday for future discs

Valuable lesson learned on this side anyways, I may invest in one of them

Just seen a 2002 mk5 on donedeal! Surely the transition would have been complete by then.....

Ya, does that make a difference?

It's an import, maybe that explains it?

That only happens when oil is near the LOW level and the amber/yellow oil light turns on after I turn the car off. *which means top me up please*

It turns off after 2-3 seconds normally.

Not too bothered about it to be honest, engine will probably fly out next year to make room for a lower mileage 2.5 :)

After extensive searching I ended up finding these side skirts.
    310678.jpg

Not bad and at €190 these were the best value I could find. The side skirts are what was pushing the price up so high when trying to get quotes from Japan and it was a little cheaper getting them from Malaysia. I would say I will get hit with import charges as you cant really say this is a small package.

Can you not get something more...locally, Chris?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Excuse the ignorance Chris, but are you putting them on as an extra or is there ones already on it and are fúcked?

About a year ago when I imported the car some scum(maybe on the boat over or maybe at the docks) stole my side skirts, spoiler and front lip. I wanted to get the car mechanically sound first and have now gotten all the belts, serviced and new bushes all done so its time to turn my attention to restoring the car back to the way it was. I replaced the spoiler already but may remove it again when I have enough money to get the holes in the boot re-welded.

After having a go at jacking my car up, I don't think I can do it safely enough for me to get under it and work at the exhaust bolts. I really don't want 1.3 tons of car dropping on me...

Anyone know a decent mechanic in the Blanchardstown area, with a lift, that'll take an exhaust midpipe off, remove the remains of a collapsed catalytic converter, and then refit the pipe - without costing the earth?

With a lift, or some sort of pit, it'd be an easy enough job to do. I just can't do it safely at home.

Why don't you buy axel stands? I think there handy...

I have really tried, not many come up and the uk sites seem to look for really big money when they eventually have stock. It was one reason I wanted to join drift Ireland and another reason why I set up JZXireland on facebook, if we have a strong community here in Ireland then trade and shared knowledge can be of benefit.

That's not the problem really. The car moved alarmingly with the stands in the right place. Call me a coward - but I'm a fat coward and I don't feel comfortable being under the thing.

What car do you have? if the car is on 14" wheels then Halfords have a ramp you can get which makes getting under the car very safe. back when I had the honda I used mine alot but the maximum wheel it will take is around 15" I think.

Jesus whatever ya do, don't put yourself in danger by going under an unstable car! Got nothing to do with being a coward - more to do with having sense!

The phrase 'burst like a squashed maggot' is not one I want uttered at my funeral
EDIT: Where in dublin you located?

Blanchardstown. I'm more looking for alternatives to Coolmine Motors - they're quite close, but they're the only ones I know off the top of my head.

    Much bigger than 15. Unfortunately

I'd lend you my jack, if it can support a 1.7 tonne estate it can get your's, but it's currently sitting under the 900 :(

But if you really want it, to save yourself some money I'll stick some more axle stands under there and help you out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,424 ✭✭✭Dartz

I have a jack and axle stands. It just felt that bit precarious being under there. I think I am just being a cowards....

Anyone got any opinions on this? Kind of thinking the MG might look cool de-bumpered, and I was thinking of a rollover bar or even a cage like so
    033afx.jpg

    Cage:
    Midget%20cage%201.jpg
    Bar:

Saw a Midget racer pretty much the same as the one above at a show recently and thought it looked dead cool, and it was a daily driver too

It looks way better like that, cooler and much classier without the bumper.
Roll cage or bar is a must on a soft top in my opinion. It's the only thing between your neck and the road.

Oh and Danny George just liked a picture of my car on Instagram.
    I'm so honoured. :D

    Ugh....

You're right. Maybe I just have to try again with some strategic comfort-bricks.
