Help us choose a honeymoon destination in Ireland

    Fellow boardies,
    we need help, as the title suggestions on picking somewhere to stay in Ireland for a couple of days following our wedding in August.

    Can't seem to settle on one place.

    There's not a huge list of requirements, we'd like an hotel, but it must have an indoor pool and it must be near the sea/beach.
    I don't mind isolation but I think himself would like a small town or similar just for a couple of pubs etc......
    We live in Dublin so preferably west coast area, but not Galway, cos we've been there and shamefully not much elsewhere. :o
    any suggestions at this stage will be gratefully examined.

    Maybe have a look at at this place in Wexford and see if it suits you.

    It's a real nice part of the world, beach walk only a short distance away and the spa and food is well good.

    Try Ballyliffin in Donegal. Some great hotels there and cracking beach on the doorstep.

    Ballinahinch Castle in Galway (sorry)
    Creggans Castle, Ballyvaughan Co Clare
    Cliff House Hotel, is it Lismore, Waterford.
    I don't know about pools but you will be well looked after in any of these.

    Rathsallagh to,there is no pool but it is gorgeous there.

    Lough Eske castle in Donegal is fab,not sure how near to beach. We spent our anniversary there last year.

    Inchydoney in West Cork if you're looking for a nice resort type atmosphere, good food, lovely spa, small pool, right on an amazing beach. It's remote though, so you wouldn't have a village nearby.

    Rathmullan House in Donegal if you would prefer something more cosy and country house feeling. Again, right on a lovely beach (not as fab as Inchydoney), 1 min walk along the beach to a lovely little village, really nice service. Decent pool. Wouldn't be as flashy as Inchydoney, but we preferred it!

    Clonakilty is nearby, and it's a fabulous place. It's easy driving/taxi distance, and you'd walk it in an hour along the coast.

    What about Parknasilla in Kerry? http://www.parknasillaresort.com/ - it's beautiful there with a fab spa and lovely walks around the grounds.

    I also love Slieve Donard in Co. Down - really lovely with the mountains in the background and beside the sea. http://www.hastingshotels.com/slieve-donard-resort-and-spa/

    And West Cork would also be on my list - just beautiful!

    I have been here more times than I can count and I promise you will not be disappointed! Great value stays to be had too and deals including dinner etc.

    For me you cannot go wrong with Westport, which is where we went.
    Lots of nice hotels to choose from with and without pools and spas. Restaurants and Pubs to suit all tastes. Beaches and other outdoor activities on your doorstep.
    Croke Patrick if you are feeling extremely energetic and Achill Island down the road.

    Thanks to all to replies with some fabulous locations! Some great ideas for trips further down the line - we've chosen Westport - we've never been, and it seems to have something for us both - looking forward now to a few days away from it all. Thanks again.

    Don't miss out on matt molloys pub in westport. It's a great spot! Also rockfleet Castle in newport, louisburgh and rooney key make for a lovely drive. Great choice, enjoy!
