Expired Passport for Alcohol?

Firstly, sorry, I have no clue which section to post this, so if a mod could move it that would be great.

Just wondering if an expired passport is an acceptable form of ID to buy alcohol with. I'm going to a concert that's on the same day as my 18th birthday, but my passports expired, and it would take to long to renew it.

    Any ideas?

Bring your mammy along for parental verification.

As far as I know they have the right to refuse you, but from personal experience most of the time they won't refuse to serve you.

It would need to be some very diligent bouncer to spot the passport is out of date. They usually are busy looking at the picture and DOB.

Unless its a snipped passport, then you will be in trouble.

Technically, they could refuse as it is not an acceptable ID but I think you will be safe!

Get a garda Id or provisional drivers licence?

No way, everyone knows that once your passport expires you revert to being underage again

You have to be 18 to apply for one.

I'm afraid post being post that I'll get it back after the concert and be stuck with no passport at all.

They prob wont notice its expired. Get your mate to buy your beers if your not confident. IF they ask, you can show your ID.

So I'm guessing your passport has a picture of a 7 year old you.
How on earth will the bouncers/bar staff accept that!?

I remember being refused years back with an expired passport. I told the bouncer I didn't want to go on holiday abroad, just wanted to have a pint.

It didn't help the situation. :pac:

I have pretty "noticeable" features... if that helps...

Passports for under 18s last for 5 years only.

Carrying a valuable document like a passport about to prove your age is stupid no matter what age you are. Get Garda ID or some other acceptable form of ID.

You can get a driving learner permit at 17, not 18.

Don't have a provisional yet. And I need a valid passport to get one.

If your passport has expired they can legally only sell you beer past it's best before date.

It's an out of date passport, so it's not really valuable anymore.

You can't get a Garda ID when you're under 18.

I just need it to buy drink by the way. Surely I'll be served by someone?

It'll be fine. I used an expired passport for years.

Yeah I don't really get stuff like this, Out of date passport with reasonable picture is a valid form of identification as the expiry date is for the travel use aspect of the document. As the information provided on the passport will never change. It's stupid tbh just another tax I mean your birth cert does not go out of date...I mean if you have changed in appearance a lot since the picture that's the only time you should need to change the passport.

Give a friend with valid Id your ticket.
He goes in, has a few pints , watches the gig and then sneaks a pint of beer out to you after the gig.
As you slurp the warm flat beer he tells you all about the gig.
    Best solution all round.

It's an out of date passport, so it's not really valuable anymore.

It is cause you need it to get a new one.
