Whatever about the UKTV channels, the ITV 2/3/4 HD channels were the subject of a "non exclusive" arrangement initially only available on Sky, which are now also available with Virgin Cable. They are still part of an arrangement that they are interested in promoting as part of their package, given they are not part of Freesat. Nobody is interested in this content from a piracy perspective as it is not premium content.

I would counter that it is more about Sky making their premium content secure. :) If BT gets less subs through CS as a result of non listing of that ID then it is not Sky's problem. After all there is no love lost.

Lets not forget BT has already lodged a complaint with Ofcom under the Competition Act, alleging that BSkyB is abusing its dominance to damage it as a rival.

All good points - but the highlighted bit applies to just about every channel apart from Sports (and maybe Movies & the high-end entertainment channels such as Sky1 and Atlantic) :)

I would still argue they are making their platform secure (as opposed to just their own channels) but, presumably, to switch channels over to the new system requires contractual consent.
As every other operator goes through Sky CS - even standalone subscription channels such as MUTV - this is implicit.

However, I assume it is because BT Sport operate as a separate entity (ie potential subscribers don't go through Sky) this is why they haven't been included. Having said that they obviously have a contract to be carried on the platform so you may well be right :)

Hmmm my €500 spent on my Vu+ Duo2 in December last year doesnt seem like such a great thing now, I cannot watch sporting events in SD, its awful on a 60" TV.

    Gutted.

get your self a motor or multi LNBs for your dish ;)

    plenty more HD sports around

Pardon me if this is a stupid question. If you have a HD subscription why can't you watch them? Do you need to put card back into your Sky Box? I assume that you're not sharing cards as that's illegal and is not allowed and rightly so as I pay my subscription charges?

A policeman wouldn't ask some of those questions and expect an answer to them.

He did however pay way too much for a box that can be bought with similar spec for less than 200 quid.

I do hope that he is using that box with a motorised dish to bring the best out of it

The Sky HD box is a crippled piece of crap. I didn't use it when I subscribed either.

The problem now for card sharers and people who have valid sky cards is that this change by sky prevents you from using a valid sky card in anything other than an official sky box. The advantages of being able to use a Sky card in something like a solo2 or duo2 box are great. Its much more than just a sky box. Of course you loose a few things like ondemand and 100% series link, but i'd trade that any day for the versatility the linux boxes of this world provide.

The annoying thing about sky is that they will charge you 28 euro for their 'basic' package which at the end of the day is just a bunch of free to air channels including the Irish stations. You could get the same with a VU box, combining a terrestrial tuner with a sat tuner, have a 7 day epg and be able to record programmes subscription free. So even if your box costs you 300 euro to buy and install, after 12 months it will have saved you the price of it from sky and you will be saving 30 euro a month after that..

The only downside to a setup like that is that its a bit more 'techy' to run and get setup and you need an internet connection to keep the 7 day epg up to date..

Not true. The CrossEPG plugin setup using the Opentv protocol gives 7day epg pulling the info from satellite

    No it doesn't ;)

The Sky card will still be possible outside the Sky box - only HD channels will be inaccessible (apart from BT Sport it appears).

The point of the above was that Sky Sports 4 went last Thursday and not today ;)

Sorry you are rite my mistake, heard that this has been sorted and when everything has been changed over a fix will be implemented.

If you got a combo box you would never be at the mercy of Sly for your rte needs. Instead it can be tuned in of the UHF aerial.

aye, the fix will be made by connecting your LNB to your receiver by Unicorn hair :D

face it Cardsharing is dying, IPTV is going to be the new thing

Possibly kt, but many many folk are not inclined to pay a sub to view anything.

Recent innovations such as acestream are absolutely tremendous.

And for those without a UHF aerial (or the desire to have one on their roof)? ;)

I doubt there are many who are Sky customers solely for RTÉ anyway :)

All the sports channels will probably be encrypted by Thursday which is the start of the world cup.

Well for me i wouldnt want Sky unless i could get the HD channels but thats personal preference..

I was just correcting a misleading error ;)

Why do people post without reading the thread, Sky don't have the world cup, it's been posted many times

No and to be honest it would be of the least priority to sky, it's basically free to anyone with any sort of subscription and HD box anyway. As sky uplink the channel themselves it probably will be changed over but it's certainly not a channel that worries them.

That's because you have a sky box - nothing will switch off on you.

A Skybox is not an official Sky box
