Just got my renewal, last year I paid €272 TPFT on a Skoda Octavia vRS 1.8T.

So renewal comes through and they offer me it for €625

That's €353 increase on last year.

10 years driving on a full Irish licence, full no claims, no penalty points, convictions etc.

Rang a few of other companies and also got some stupid prices, all TPFT quotes of €889, €550 and €417.

So has anybody else's insurance gone way up this year?

The Quinns must have bankrupted another company.

You will probably have to put aside an hour or two, get out the golden pages and ring every insurance company and broker. PITA but it can pay off and save you money.

I'm the same as OP, price increased €202 euros compared to last years quote with FBD..
Shopped around and got it for €80 cheaper with AIG (2 of us on policy) and also got a voucher for a free kids Dubs jersey !!

When my quote came in in February it had gone up by the best part of €250. I had expected some sort of increase but not by that. Took a few phone calls but got it down to around about a €50 increase with the same benefits and add on I previously had, so I paid €565 fully comp on a Subaru Legacy B4.

Mine dropped from €451 with AA Insurance last year, to €268 this year with AIG.

AXA tried stinging me last year when my renewal came. Originally it was 800e fully comp.
Renewal came and it was over 1k!
Rang around and got FBD for approx 500e. Rang AXA back and told them the same.
They then offered me just over 600e but couldn't explain to me why the hell they had done it in the first place.
That one phone call saved me over 500e. Ring around OP is the best thing to do.

I was with 123.ie for the last few years paying about €400 per year for TPFT, but after getting a renewal quote of €680 I looked elsewhere.

Found a great quote from Liberty Insurance for €460 fully comp which 123.ie could not match, they didn't even come close.

Maybe try Liberty??? worked for me!

    Regards

A lot of companies will up the prices on renewals because a lot of people are not willing to shop around. Being loyal to these companies is not in your interest, just shop around and hopefully you'll find a better deal without too much hassle.

Zurich and FBD were quite good to me this year. :)

Mine went up massively this year too with 123. Through this forum got a recommendation for 25plus.ie and got a brilliant quote.

Up from €280 last year to €345 this year with Aviva. Got a few online quotes, €320 being the lowest with its4women. Rang Aviva and asked why the big increase, and seeing as my husband has insurance with them too they matched last years quote. Well worth a phone call.

Yep. Mine has increased for circa €480ish to €550. But in fairness I drive a lot of different cars and have fully comp on all other cars that are not my own and they don't need to be insured by anybody else etc

Mine has gone up for the last two years. Maybe due to wife having no full license.

Mine goes up every year, more or less.
I just switch to someone else and have managed to stay on the same level for many years doing this.

    Couple old ones from me

There is hope OP, just keep looking.

What lies are the reasons for the increases?

Just got an online quote from AA, fully comp. 373 for no-step back bonus protection and 413 with it.

What exactly is that step-back etc thing?

Also, I've always been fully comp but if you're driving a car that's worth feck all monetarily, would it be worth my while dropping down to third party and if so, can you get one of those policies where you can still drive other cars?

Step back means that rather than losing your full NCB if you claim, you might only lose 1-2 years.

If you are happy to/can afford to walk away from the car then third party makes more sense. Some TP policies will have third party extension, others wont. Just be sure to check exactly what the policy is offering; things like windscreen cover, breakdown assistance also might not be included.

    Hey,

If you let lowestquote.ie know what your quote is they might find a lower one for you.

Or let them name their lowest quote first and I will then tell them if they beat mine. ;)

How much do you have to pay them?

    535 -> 950 with 123.ie 5 years NCB, 1.6 Avensis
ditched them on the spot, and after signing up with AXA got an email with quote that was e7 lower than offered by AXA

€424 last year. €386 this year with 123. That's without even ringing them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,140 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Liberty Insurance increased mine by €240 this year. 6 years on Full licence, 6 years NCB and no penalty points or convictions and have been insured with Quinn/Liberty in all that time. 27 driving a 2002 BMW 318. Crazy increase. I'll be shopping around for sure.

Mine went down about 200 euro, just keep shopping around until you find a decent price.

Hah! I was with a broker for 14 years, and these past few years I've been alternately with RSA and Zurich. One year one of them would go mad and I'd swap to the other via the broker, the next year the other, and so forth. This year, they both went mad and the best the broker was able to do was €570, €200 more than last year. So I fcuked them all off and got it with AXA for €378, 42 years young, full-comp on a 3l Jag.

I don't see any point putting in a claim if your damaged/wrecked car is a banger and it meant losing your NCB.

Would anyone else agree with that?

    To follow up on this......

Spent a while ringing up companies for quotes.

I've tried: AXA, Allianz, AIG, Aviva, 123.ie, Chill, Liberty, FBD, One Direct and Zurich.

The honour of most expensive quote goes to Liberty with a staggering €889 for TPFT

But surprisingly Aviva gave the lowest quote, with €355.

So even being a jump from €272 last year to €355, I'm happy enough considering original renewal was €625 from 123.ie and many on here saying all premiums have gone up.
