I don't get people who won't just blip their throttle to 140kms to overtake somebody safer and faster on the motorway.

Motorway driving should be covered better in driver testing. I hope it dosent take an unbelievable accident for this to happen.

So I'm just back from a long motorway spin and I've come to a conclusion based on a few observations..

120 km/h isn't fast enough considering most people can't even hit that

This was prompted after I had some silly twit in a 3 series start drifting across the centre line to pass a truck - without noticing I was about to pass both of them as they were doing about 100-110!

As most people seemingly can't do/maintain 120 km/h on an open motorway - but will do 10-20 km/h under it - those of us who can will inevitably end up gaining on them and thus need to overtake to continue, especially when one of these people comes up behind an even slower vehicle - like say a truck.

However, with such a limited variance in speed, the actual overtaking move will take far longer and indeed encourage idiots that they can make their stupid manoeuvre without causing a problem.

I wasn't in any rush tonight but I noticed several example of idiots taking chances as a result of the above. It's actually MORE dangerous in my opinion that "speeding" because in the latter case you would be past them quicker and the great difference in speed discourages their stupidity in the first place as they'd see you move out and gain on them faster.

Then there was the scummer who nearly caused a pile-up an hour earlier by cutting across me from the outside lane in an attempt to undertake a car ahead of him which he'd actually successfully intimidated enough that it was moving over anyway. As a side note, Quattro and quick reactions FTW.

Yer man then nearly swipes the front of my car and the back of the other one, but do our girls n boys in blue care - nope, cause it was a NI reg hatchback and while I could go making a statement, the response was such that there's no point (car mightn't be here tomorrow/could be a tourist/not on the system etc). Our heroes did say they'd put the word out but didn't seem overly optimistic/interested.

    Fun evening eh?

I find that the majority of people have one speed that they use on dual/3 lane roads. For most it seams to be about 110kmh. I am forever driving from the Dundrum exit on the M50 to Ashford. On the 120km/h section of the M50/M11 I am usually not overtaken by anyone when driving at roughly the speed limit (120-130ish) then when I get to the 100km/h zone I slow down to 100-105ish and am passed by loads of people. The mind boggles :confused:

Cause that would be "speeding" and as such I couldn't possibly comment :p It was an interesting little experiment. I may have been a little over anyway, but even at that I reckon you'd need to be doing 140-150 to get anywhere.

    No it doesn't...

It's stopping really really quickly :p

I don't see the point TBH, nothing unsafe about a slow overtake on a dual carriage way. I will speed up if someone is being held up by me significantly but otherwise I just pass them at the speed i'm going if there is none behind me.

I hate slow motorway over taking, stepping on the brakes evaluate someone's pretty much matching the speed of the car to the left, ending up with myself and about 4 other cars going mad to get passed.

The one I want is already made, I shall pay them a visit tomorrow. Must get a can of lacquer as well. There's about 4 different types on their website, don't know which one to get....

Yb - €10 for a 500ml can. I wouldn't have thought that to be too bad. I'm sick of looking around for paint. I don't care at this stage :pac:

Option 1 is fine man, don't know why they have all those possible options when really they are all the same!

Isn't a quick spray over the dried paint the way to do it, or should you go over it a few times.

And whats the setup with halfords. Is it similar to argos - having to reserve and collect, or can you go in and grab and pay, believe it or not I've never been in one!!

Couple of thin coats will do no harm. What are you doing Noccy?

Just go in and buy like any shop :)

What i done with the trims on my astra

cleaned them with a cleaning spray you can get there, then one coat of adhesion promoter, then one coat of lacquer let it dry, and other coat, let that dry and then a final coat, in between coats get a hairdryer or heat gun to keep the moisture away and to speed up the process :)

The front "grille" on the 206. Have the part off so it will be easy do. Chipped off all the loose white bits and sanded down the rough edges with very fine paper so that the whole part is very smooth. I don't give a shíte if it's not done right, can't make it any worse than what it already is :pac:

I'd be coming home with a can of etch primer too, just to do a good job!

from what i can remember I cleaned it first to the point where there was nothing on the cloths, then stuck adhesion promoter on and then went away with spraying and so on

Yep, by the sounds of it you have the surface "keyed", so it's got a general rub down and is smooth and clean.

Hang it from the roof of your garage or spray area etc.

Spray the primer on in 1, maybe 2 coats if you're afraid of causing a run.

Allow to dry manually or with help.

Apply the paint in 2-3 coats or more depending on how it goes for you, I've done up to 5 before.
Again let it dry, very well or the lacquer will react.

    Then finally lacquer it :)

Simple and a great feeling turning something around like that :)

One final tip is to warm the cans up in a basin of very hot water for a few mins before use. This helps the paint to come out more evenly and less inclined to run :)
