Was trying to put positive spin on things!!

On a more serious note was told by someone fairly high up in Glanbia mgt it's likely to be 2 C/l down in May followed by another 2 June and 2 July. Can't see this 6-7c/l in one go that was mentioned.

Why do some people feel guilty about being well paid for a top quality product?.
Are we even being well paid at 39c?. IFCN calculate that it costs 37c per litre all costs in Ireland. Land, labour etc. . All the co-op 2013 accounts report increased profits, so plenty of fat to support milk price, or is it all needed for the pension fund or the acquisition fund. DG defined benefit pension fund now stands at €233m, more than DG itself is arguably worth. I suppose what I'm saying is that we have too many co-ops with too many suits and subsequently too much assembly and processing cost.

Dg base 39c/l, received 42.8, our bf% kept our price 0.5c/l outside the top 10% of suppliers for April difference of 5.5c/l between top and bottom.

Glanbia are usually first to set price so we are all waiting ,if they drop then u can bet the rest will follow suit.the latest global dairy auction was back 4.2%,seemingly starting to bottom out now

I'd say the opposite and this is to make the 1c bonus look attractive.
Most people will be forced to sign eventually,GII know this.
GII is boss just like Glanbia so 2c drops every month now untill we get to 28..
    Because they can.
    No other reason.

    It was expected.
We are our own worst enemy at times. Farmers have been talking down the price since the start of the year.
My milk manager was able to tell me a month ago that 2c off June and same for July was what was coming down tracks.

Price slashed 2 cent. As usual price rose slowly last year and lagged behind the rising world market. But the downward spiral will come fast and fierce.

Would of been cut last month were it not for contracts.

Are strathroy still paying 40 cent?

Would've been cut last mth if it wasn't for a good margin in March. This is hardly a surprise and expect at least one more 2-3c drop. Downward pressure on prices that's why it dropped. Disappointed they didn't wait one more mth as they were 1 mth behind in rising that said were the first to pay 39

    Anyone for fixed price now?

This might be the fixed scheme that will pay off allright.

Did you fix any. I didnt bother.

By the way my strathroy question was only me letting off steam. Id buy calves first!

No didn't fix any, manage volatiliy ourselves now that were more established. If 09 had happened to me in 07 I was goosed as really only finding my feet then with huge money pressure

I know you were letting off steam

Will we have as a low a milk price again?
I keep reading that there's a massive world wide demand for milk products like whey and baby formulae

Yes, this is going to be rough for a while. The new 22c is now 28-30. That to me considering inflation is bad. Will beca great time to buy stock though. In 09 lads couldn't sell heifers cheap enough

Can't see that happening. You have to remember '09 was a global financial meltdown. That's what caused the low milk price, not the mechanics of the milk market itself. What we are seeing now is the effect of cheap grain and a stable fuel price. Milk will go down to a price that matches the drop in feed prices from last years global grain harvest. This year is looking good for a good harvest globally aswell, so it's going to be price down for the following 6 months. Prices won't go down too low because then the American style milk producers slow down. We won't see a price rise again until grain prices move up and even then it will be about 6months after grain price.

The great Bob Charles was always afraid of low grain prices, screws everything from beef to milk.
