48% tax for 100K. I like the sound of that. Just reinforced my positive opinion of Sinn Fein. Republic of 1916 proclaimed in arms here we come,.

Because you're being penalised just like someone who earns €100K+ has to pay extra tax!

Doesn't matter a fig even if the tax rate was 99%. Its the collection of said tax rate that is the challenge. Tax avoidance and evasion is rampant in Ireland. So whether its 48%, 32% or 99% the super rich pay very little of it. Seeming entitlement is not limited to one particular element of society.

Good friend of the Government Denis o Brien pays he's taxes in Malta.

But that doesn't stop him getting awarded massive government contracts.

One of He's company currently fitting water Meters, and he's other comp Topaz awarded a 20 million Government contract. And he has Brian cowen on the board.

This is the oldest trick in the book.

SF have done a brilliant job of dividing the population. There are the masses ( unemployed & low paid ) and the elite (middle and high paid)

People confuse wealth with earnings. A 100k PAYE worker is not rich, but many of them are mobile. If SF get in and implement these policies many of these people will move. Ill be one of them.

And they're going to spend €13bn on a jobs scheme, and all the while they are going to fully fund our services.
    .

Maybe all of the 400000 on the dole will be given public service jobs on €32,500 with the €13b. Instant 0% unemployment. Bestest party ever!!!!eleven!!!!!

I wonder how well the SF figures actually stand up - if at all.
What is the effective rate of tax (including PRSI and USC) on portions of salaries over 100K at the moment? I doubt it could be far off 48%.

The next question to be asked would be what the net saving to the state would be by capping pay at 100K in the civil and public service.
I couldnt see it being anywhere close to what they are looking for and moreso the knock on effects of of doing that would be huge.

Mary Lou debating with a qualified economist on RTE's Primetime is like an astrologer debating with an astronomer!

And watch the mass exodus of trained/qualified workers as you bring this tax in.

Anyone in the EU has to be allowed tender for contracts. Just like everywhere else. Maybe we could just ban outside companies tendering, but we still want ours to be able to work abroad......

Are figures available for the amount of people earning over certain amounts? should be easy to work the figures out if it is.

Without even looking though, I doubt they will come anywhere close to the €10b hole that needs plugging.

As a matter of interest ,if your getting work done in your house and your mate is a builder who gives you a very competitive price, would you go elsewhere for the work?

Anytime someone makes a post like this regarding the tender process always makes me smile, it just proves you don't have a single ****ing clue about how the process works and just shows your inability to process information.

How would hanging around with single mothers be an insult?

I simply mean I don't know any like the type you mention.

    Not the point.

What if your in charge of getting work done for your job? Buying stationary? etc. People use their mates for work.

If Denis O'Briens quotes are competitive and the work is done right with the right reasons given for him getting the contracts then I don't care why he gets it.

The rest is just moaning because its FF/FG etc.

Do you reckon no one that members of SF know will get any contracts if they are in government? Or if they do it'll be different because you say SF are ok?

Denis O Brien was involved in a alleged contract scandal that's why.

And i know of 3 who are getting all of the benefits and have their partners (working full time jobs) living with them so it does go on. Let's means test the **** out of the dole and all other welfare payments before taxing the people who keep this country alive.

not at all, but highlighting an issue in our country that costing 100's and 100's of millions every year.

we have the most generous benifits system in the world, people can argue all they want about it, but its the reality.

and you know what, good luck to them, but at the same time tax payers dont have to be happy about it.

i was on holiday a couple of years back and met an eastern european family. she was a "single" mam but actually lived with the father of the child. in the eyes of the law, their relationship didnt exist.

she was claiming all the benifits, plus childrens allowance and had a house paid for.
he was getting his dole and living in that house.

they had 2 cars and 3 or 4 holidays a year. they didnt want to get married as they would lose too much money off the state if they did. in the meantime, myself and my missus were there on the same holiday as them that we worked hard to pay for while they sat there laughing at us.

and they are not the only ones doing it, theres many 1000s more im pretty sure. as pointed out above, its time that we actually means tested social welfare first and cut the spending there, before actually looking to charge the people funding the country, even more.

That in itself would be a great thing for a lot of families.

Not for the ones who have family members who work in bookie shops and call centres in this country, they'd be on the dole.

And betting would still be there, just done illegally, unregulated and with bookies earnings totally untaxed. In America, betting on sports is illegal except for one state. But everybody 'knows a guy' who you can bet with, it's widespread, esp on the NFL.

Illegal betting is usually done on credit, which can get people into way more trouble, betting with money they don't have. If you don't pay up, you could end up with broken bones. And if a bookie decides not to pay up, you can't do much about it. Far worse system than legalized gambling.

Back on topic: Fg lab and ff have targeted the poor and those with health problems and they going to be gone if they don't ease up on these vicious cuts to the most vulnerable, the message is clear.

Having said that, I do believe we could cut certain things. Child benefit being a universal payment given regardless of income is a joke. It should be for those on very low incomes or unemployed, and single parents who are not receiving maintenance. I have to buy a license every year for my adopted dog and pay all vet costs and food myself, as it was my choice to have a dog. But married couples with jobs get an extra bit of dosh for every brat they produce. Why? We have birth control here. Don't have kids you can't afford to support. Most mothers spend it on themselves anyway, they see it as their money to treat themselves to something as a reward for being a mum.

I can indeed be matey, the Govt cannot do that. That would not be above board.
Anyway I would not get it done by a friend as we could end up falling out over it.
