98 Renault Clio steering wheel controls

Hi I bought the above car last week, It has audio controls on the steering wheel but they don't work with the radio. Has anyone any idea how to hook it up please?

The steering wheel controls is wired into the cars wiring harness that plugs into the radio if it was unplugged the radio wouldn't work at all.
If the original radio was replaced with after market replacement the replacement radio won't support the steering wheel controls.
