People who inspired you?

Who are the people who inspired you in life, career and outlook?

Inspiration for my career is Richard Feynman, physicist and Hans Kreb, biochemist. Feyman won the Nobel prize for his work on quantum electrodynamics and Kreb discovered chemical cycles in biochemistry (urea, TCA/krebs cycle). Both these men were brilliant minds in their own right but also had very interesting views on society. Feynman always questioned whether people deserved honours and said people that unconditionally respect men in uniform because of status are wrong. Feynman came from a background devoid of traditional education and was simply a genius.

Inspiration for outlook has to be Nelson Mandela, Ghandi and anyone who fights for universal rights.

Bruce Lee - not just for his physical ability but also his wise words. He was a smart man.

George Carlin - great comedian and also a smart man.

    Johnny Weismuller.

He was Romanian-Austro-Hungarian, lived in the jungle, commanded all the animals with a single yodelling roar. He could also swim exceedingly well. Better than almost anybody of the 20th century.

And Arnold Swarzenegger. For Total Recall. And Terminator. And maybe Predator.

Well one of the men who inspired his creation is Percy Fawcett. He was an explorer who went looking for a hidden city called "the lost city of Z" that allegedly resided in south america. He went into the deep jungles looking for it and never came out again. His adventures inspired many of my travels.

In fairness I feel like a complete moaner when I think of people like him and his attitudes to complete adversity.

I don't know, but I went to school with Glen Matlock and Mikey Craig.

I don't think either inspired me as I am the musical equivalent of a Turnip.

I love the Pistols. But I wouldn't have Matlock down as a musical icon either!

That's a pretty cool classmate mind you. You must be ancient.

David Attenborough - The old mucker is 88 and is still going strong with another big series along the lines of Planet Earth still to come.

Was a massive influence in the shaping of television when he was director of programming for BBC.

Grew up watching his documentaries that gave me the drive to learn more about natural world, he's like an old friend that's always been around.

    Me neither.

No year above me. We were altogether for a trip to the Norfolk Broads - I shudder thinking back and I really do pity those teachers :)

    You bet ;)

Temple Grandin. She used her autism to understand the way animals think and designed humane systems in US slaughterhouses. She also writes about complex concepts in really simple terms which are a pleasure to read.

My niece and nephew. I won't go into details, but she's been seriously ill since she was 11 and is now just finishing a degree. Multiple ops, lots of pain, quite a few close shaves and not once have I heard her complain, not a single word. He's an incredible brother to her and cares for her and their younger brother like a father, while finishing his own degree. Genuinely humbling and inspirational people.

    My Dad..

After losing his seat in the local elections. His income is down from 60k to 14k per year. Despite doing all he could in the area to ensure getting a seat in the local elections and losing it. He is still trying to find ways to get more income for the family. I am very proud of him. :)
