I worked in a bar in Galway for a few months when I was in my early 20s. The amount of time I was harrassed by women on hen nights & work nights out was insane. I eased the pain by riding a huge number of these women. My plan was as simple as it was effective. I would pick 1 sexy old woman in a group & make sure I would wind her up to the point where she'd get egged on by the others to make a move on me. I used to play up on the fact that I was only a youngfella & it was like a red rag to a bull. They used to literally hop on me. I used to tell them which nightclubs were the best & I used to get them discounted drinks from a mate who worked in a club. I'd get them drunk, send them to him, he'd mind them for me & id show up after work & have a few drinks with them. More often than not myself & my mate would end up in the same hotel room with 2 women. I honestly think I did that more than 50 times in the 3 years I worked in the pub.

* Oh, also I know that story had nothing to with the thread & it's topic but I just love telling that story. I also love the fact that someone reading this is thinking of the time their mother/aunt/sister/wife/girlfriend went to Galway with the girls. Yes that's right, I probably rode her.

For one thing, on the rare occasions when a lass does find me attractive, it takes an awful lot of things said and hints dropped before I'd twig that she found me attractive. The responses by some men here have really surprised me. this has nothing to do with a woman indecently slapping a guy. the incident in question is a man slapped a woman, focus on the issue in hand and if the table was turned, the same legal action should be taken as well. But anytime now a woman is involved in one of these cases, the male brigade come out in full force saying "if a woman did this...." well in this case she didnt.

He probably wont get jail time but she was in work. If one of you were in your office and did this to someone, you would be fired.

I don't think this guy should be sentenced at all, and I think he was being a drunken dope rather than a monster (but what he did was still horrible for the woman) and there would be less of a big deal made in relation to a bunch of rowdy hens acting the twat towards male workers... but the above post... Jesus Christ.
I used to work in a place where women in the 70s/80s avoided who they got into the lift with and who they'd end up in a quiet part of the building with... but so long as they smiled through gritted teeth or came back with a witty slightly demeaning riposte... as opposed to... it not happening at all being kinda better.

How is people saying he should get community service, suspended sentences etc as punishment.. not focusing on the issue at hand

Sure, some people are ALSO making the point that if a woman slapped a male stewards arse, there would be no question of her going to prison, but so what..

I fail to see how making point #2.. somehow means point #1 was never made.

I fail to see how making point #2 is relevant tbh. No one is arguing that it happens to men and it doesnt make it acceptable at all that it does.

No one is saying it is ok.

People are commenting on the actual issue that happened. If I was steaming in a bar I certainly wouldnt be slapping or groping guys. And if I were at a hen or any event and I saw a woman doing it, I would f them out of it, check the person it happened to is ok and ask do they need help to report it, whether it is to a boss, or a guard.

This isnt a war you know. When something happens to a woman, the argument " well it happens to men too" is minimising and dismissive. Why cant we say its not all right full stop?

You're being disengenuous and you know you are. The fact that one large group of people get treated differently to another in a given situation is entirely relevant when discussing that situation.

Ok while protection from sexual harassment is not some zero sum game where increased protect for woman means reduced protection for men, this is a thread about the potential for unduly harsh sentencing for what is in the light of it a fairly minor offense to send a message this should be seen in the context of the UK where they seem to be increasingly delivering some crazy charges and sentences to set examples rather than the severity of offenses themselves being the guide.
Since a custodial charge in a case like this would be to send a message that this behavior is not tolerated to society it is relevant to argue that a double standard exists in the treatment of these incidents.
In this particular incident the 'logical' reason why male>female harassment is viewed more severely than female<male harassment, of the disparity of power/threat between the genders doesn't really apply as it wasn't aggressive, was a singular incident, and occurred in a controlled environment.
I am not denying that people should have a safe and respectful work environment but a prison sentence seems overly harsh, most people male or female will have been groped at some stage of their lives but does one want each of these offenders to be jailed?
