I should have given more credit to a Waterford in my previous post. Of course they brought the fight to Cork and as was posted Cork came into it more when Waterford tired.

Canning is nowhere near the best player around at the moment. At the moment, he's not even the best player in the Galway side, for consistency that would go to Fergal Moore.

The most consistent player can only ever be counted as the best player around at any moment, and at this moment that man is the greatest player of his generation.

That man is JJ Delaney. In his 30's and still as good as ever, and he's not even in his natural position. Its not his skills that make him the best, there's more skillful hurlers out there. Its his sheer consistent brilliance that makes him still the best around.

jj delaney is nowhere near the best player around at the moment. At the moment, he's not even the best player in the Kilkenny side, for consistency that would go to Tommy walsh.

If you are going by who is playing the best at the moment, id say Conor McGrath. Who has the potential to be the best, Joe Canning no question. TJ reid and Richie Power are both very good as well

It was a bit like the CL final last night.

Cork were shaken. Waterford should have cleared that ball for the cork goal. The referee made a few contentious decisions in favor of waterford. COrk should have had a free near the end.

The Dessies need to get rid of dead rot leg like Shanahan and give some of the younger bucks a lick of the ball and a feel for the hurl. Mullane stepped off the stage at the right time. He would not be seen to crumble. Dan is an old man. Old enough to be the daddy of some of the youngsters. Time for him to get back in the lorry.

He's 37! And barely has a leg to carry himself. But he has been a great servant no doubt.

Have you watched a Championship hurling match since 2012?

To be fair he is great and I am a bit hyperbolic but I think his time is done and you need to start breeding a new bunch of boys.

    Is that a rhetorical question?

Dan Shanahan is a selector, not a player...

Tommy Walsh has only played a couple of times this year and was extremely poor by his standards. I'd be shocked if he makes the Kilkenny team this year let alone is the best player in the country. The notion that he's better than jj right now is absolutely farcical.

Yeah straight after posting I thought it might be better craic to keep letting that line of thought go. My apologies

Thats the league. It means nothing. Come the championship thats where you judge the man.

Some mad things being said in this thread...:P

Waterford will be absolutely gutted they didn't win today, a scrappy goal conceded let Cork back into the game after they did brilliantly to extend their lead. Cork were nowhere near their best, but Waterford seem to run out of legs, and they didn't really have a top class bench to turn to. They all did okay, but no one to bring them to the next level in attack. Cooper made a big impact for Cork from the bench.

Cork would have to be favourites in the replay, would be a big ask from Waterford to beat them... they were there for the taking today. But it's still going to give them confidence for the year ahead, some of their younger players were superb- Gleeson was immense, but would have been taken off if there was a sub left, he was clearly injured.... that alone may have cost them, sadly.

Cork posters none too happy with the ref today.

After Antrim's win over Laois today they now take on Wexford next weekend while Laois play Galway. Both fixed for Portlaoise next Sunday.

About three decisions that resulted in scores for waterford. He gave a free for a shoulder which was ridiculous.

Well, I guess you win some and you lose some - Cork more than rode their luck last year! But at least they get a chance to rectify matters in a replay.

And rightly so. Made a few bad calls that lead to Waterford scores.

All refs make mistakes but I did think he nearly cost us, taking nothing away from the Waterford performance.

It doesn't mean nothing. It has been a great barometer of the shape of Kilkenny teams for well over a decade. But setting that aside, Tommy hasn't been or strongest payer, in championship, in at least two years. I hope I'm wrong and that he makes it back into the team for championship, but I'd be absolutely knocked for six if he was anywhere close to being Kilkennys best player.

    But sure we'll see.

The draw was more to do with Cork's shocking display than the referee. It's easy to blame the ref.

Waterford had a say in the draw also!

That was a great comeback by Laois, scoring 18 points in the last three hours

And that of course, although if Cork performed better I don't think Waterford would have been so far ahead at half time :P

I presume the 9pm score was the right one? :pac:
