    The rich will continue to get richer whether Richard Boyd Barrett likes it or not. That's a fact of life which the Irish electoral system will never change.

    No electoral system will ever change the truths of human nature and all societies that human nature create. People are not born equal and never will be equal. Successful people will always be more successful. Wealth will always accumulate and grow. To expect or to claim that this can be, or even should be, reversed is to ignore human nature and human history.

    What we need to continue trying to do is to offer everyone as equal an opportunity to succeed as we can, to temper the differential between the wealthiest and the poorest and average, and to prevent wealth from controlling the body politic. In my view those are the ultimate goals of any political system.
