Our poor country. This is what "prosperity" has brought. OP, I hope you and your Mam get the assistance you need and find somewhere decent to live. I truly do. :(

    OP if your mam...
You're starting to piss me off.
How can a 16 year old drive or even afford a BMW??????
When I was a child I also referred to Dad's cars as "ours", "mine", etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,687 ✭✭✭✭Penny Tration

I get the whole 'it's my uncle's car' thing.

But the op also has posts about his upc horizon box, and having to call up to get an issue sorted with it. UPC do not deal with people who aren't the one with the contract, and a 16 year old cannot get a contract with UPC...

If this is real - nerobert, contact Focus Ireland. Go to a community welfare officer and seek assistance. Contact St Vincent de Paul. Contact every possible charity you can think of, and ask for help. Ask family and friends to help put you up, and ask for emergency accommodation from the social welfare.

Boombastic, take a few months off to try and learn how not to troll.

The people having "a harmless laugh" at this kid are truly pathetic, no doubt they'd be too cowardly and weak-willed to face similar circumstances as the OP

I'm pretty sure only one person had a laugh at the situation. Pretty much everyone is offering the OP advice.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I'll try not get too off topic but I did have problems with UPC, and I did ring them, and they did sort it out, they don't know how old their callers are.

Sorry, have seen it was the single culprit after re-reading.

No she's busy arranging viewings for places to live, but the landlords always ask her for something she doesn't have, "you need a written reference", "you need to have a job", "could you get a months rent and deposit in our account ASAP" she can't do it all

For the written reference - make it up. If the LL asks about a job, lie. The deposit and rent - well, that's up to her. Talk to Focus Ireland, Simon Community and Threshold for advice.

Good luck OP, I hope you find a place soon.

Surely if you's have previously been renting getting references would be easy enough,

What an insensitive post. You seem to specialize in that Boombastic. Why do you do that? Unhappy??

Or probably just trying to hard.

How can you make one up? Do they not need to be emailed nowadays? If I could make one up I certainly would, things are getting desperate at this stage

I'd just print out a generic 'To whom it may concern- blah blah was a good tenant who paid on time - signed Last Landlord'. If they question it, just say that the LL was old and never used email.

Ok Have to disagree with The One Doc. You should never sign someone else's name to a piece of paper without their permission. Period.
If you need something try get a family member or friend to write something saying you were a tenant but left because they wanted to convert the house or something.

Write it with a pen or print it?

Either I suppose. Printing would be easier in that you can have multiple copies. Then maybe hand signature at the end.

Op, most landlords wont accept RA but some will. Your mum appears to have chosen to live at a friends rather than go for the accommodation which accepts RA.

    Hi Nerobert

a reference can come from your GP, or a priest, or maybe a relative can write one for you guys. Threshold should be able to help
Best of luck - thinking of you a lot over the last day or two.

That's a bit harsh to say she chooses not to have a home. Have you seen rental prices in Dublin lately? You would have a fairly tough time finding a place under the RA cap, never mind one that also accepts RA on top of that.

The few who accept RA in Dublin City, will be in on dated with applicants. There are many Landlords
out side Dublin though who cant be choosers.

With a young son to support ,her first priority will be to find accommodation.

Some would argue job first to financially support a child ,
But been how bad things are for RA lately ,
Less than 25 properties took RA country wide for the last several months ,
But then again get a job loose RA eligibility

Lets not start second guessing the situation here or moralizing without knowing all the facts.
Mum and son need some help and let's hope some of our suggestions help.
He really does sound like an excellent son and I bet his Mum is trying her very best to get things sorted. Difficult things happen to nice people sometimes - its nobody's fault and lets be as supportive as possible, okay?
If the OP wants to PM me, I would be happy to advise in more detail.
I am sure everything will work out okay very soon.

    Nerobert

also, as there is an election coming up, the local politicians are doing everything they can to get votes. Why don't you suggest to your Mum that you both visit your local politician and explain what is happening to you.
Maybe they will be able to put you in touch with someone who can help you immediately

Thanks for all the advice, we're on the bus to view an apartment now, my ma has to ring the homeless number everyday to find somewhere to stay the night, it's not very nice, we'll pull through though, thanks so much to everyone for advice, if it doesn't benefit us, it'll surely benefit someone else :)
