Never dawned on you that the methadone clinics are moved into city centre so they need to travel..

Big ask for flexibility in the working conditions of the word "need" there. And "dawned" too, as it happens.

Hmmm what do the upstanding insomniac citizens that stay up posting throughout the night have to say?

I agree with pp, your option for yes on your poll are not the reasons they were given travel passes

Well if you want you can switch with them they are probably homeless, probably not on good terms with family, wrecking their bodies, probably uneducated, spend every cent and minute they have on their next high.

I really don't understand why people say stuff like am I a fool/idiot etc for working. Even if they get free travel their lives are not exactly great, which I know is mostly their own faults but I wouldn't really get upset if they did get free travel.

Anyway to answer your question, no no you are not an eejit you can probably afford a car which they cant, house which they cant, holidays which they cant and you will live a much better and fuller life then they will more than likely, so why worry about if a junkie gets a free bus trip or not really? Your tax money is getting wasted on stuff much worse than that.

or €400 a day for Meth, which they can't..no, wait..hold on..

I think they should get free travel. Free travel to a farm upstate.

Im going to move to this Ireland place. Seems like you get everything for free and the worse a person you are, the more crap you get away with.

Have you ever seen the trouble caused when a junkie who doesn't have a bus pass tries to scam his way on a bus? +10 minutes of hassle and delay and they usually get on anyway as the bus driver can't be arsed arguing all day with a zombie.
I remember once I saw a junkie who was out of his head just walk on to the bus without saying anything to the driver. The driver sent another junkie who got on after him up to get him. This resulted in a scrap between the two junkies. Great entertainment.

I work in public transport and I absolutely disagree with junkies/drunks having free travel. It's insulting to paying customers. Plus, nearly 100% of trouble is caused by these types. A fare paying customer won't cause hassle.

I don't see how inflicting a condition on yourself should entitle you to something that costs others thousands of euro a year.

Don't do it...if you gullible enough to believe everything you read on here you will have spent all your money buying cheap laptops from travellers 5 minutes after you arrive.

if he goes down to the community welfare officer with his sob story they'll replace his monies and his laptops, they'd probably throw in a free pram too- oy no need to bring this on the bus, they'll give you another one next time they see you

What do they get then? Because i see them get on the bus every day and not one of them pays for their journey, Sure as **** looks like free travel to me.

Old people generally don't pay tax either.

You do realise a lot if not most, 'old people' have spent their entire working lives contributing tax. A lot more than you or I.

Do these junkies not have legs or something? Let them walk.

You can picture the scene every morning as hundreds of junkies shuffle their way into town for their fix :D

So because it may be a bit difficult we shouldn't do it?

Let's take the free passes off them and use the money saved to hire a ****load of security guards like they have for the luas. This will create jobs and put money into the economy, it will also make people feel safer on buses hence more revenue for Dublin bus. The junkies won't be long paying their fare or stepping back off the bus when they see a big burly ****er standing there.

And if they mislaid their spawn/baby, they take one off a TAXPAYER and give it to them for free!

    No...
    In fact, exactly the opposite.

We should force them to walk... On treadmills, that are connected to generators..

I think that we should just round them all up...
Put every single junkie in the country on a treadmill.

Dangle a bit of skag on the end of a fishing rod, just out of their reach.

    Et voila..
A Cheap renewable energy source for the country.

Also it would help clean up the place a bit.
Having skagheads lying all around the place is pretty untidy..

I've no issue with someone getting a pass for a visit to a health care professional especially those who are on the road to recovery. I think anyone who is really trying to kick a drugs habit needs all the support we can give them.

The problem is that its used by all junkies, I do resent having to pay about 7 quid round trip into town when these people get it for free and then go upstairs and just treat the bus like their own personal doss house.

Get the red line to work every morning and they are always on it out of their heads causing hassle. Havent seen one pay a fare. If there are people on checking tickets they jump off and wait, or if they do get caught they just complain and make a scene until they're eventually left alone.

Whereas, If I didnt pay the fare I'd be getting fined - no two ways about it. F**king despise them.

mainlining it is better than red lining it

Only reason I use the redline is because it literally leaves me 200ft from my job. Having to put up with the creatures that frequent it is the downside.

When the line to Cabra opens I wonder what it will be like where the red line intersects with it on O'Connell st?

But I agree 100% with those that say they should walk. We shouldn't be paying this.

Yes, people who get Methadone from a clinic are entitled to one. Or maybe you'd prefer them of the methadone & back on the the streets of the cities robbing old ones handbags to by their next fix & leaving dirty needles around the place?

It always amuses me that some people see this as an either or situation. There are those who do both, and there are also those (a much smaller group i'll grant you) who do neither. Methadone isn't some magical fairy dust that you sprinkle onto violent heroin addicts to turn them into some cuddly army of OAP supporters.

    the track will be
1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1â„2 in) this is stardard I believe as the luas would otherwise fall off

Having used trains from Gorey into Dublin for years, I see it all the time. Yes they do get free travel. They also get very affordable accommodation, many of them are placed in Gorey and Rathdrum. And I have seen many unfortunate incidents on the train by said junkies.

So not only do they get free travel but they can also make the life of paying passengers a misery.

'Cos after necking the Methadone, they're straight home to catch up on some ironing and maybe later, an evening of poetry at the local community centre.

You're watching to match breaking bad I think, meth is not big at all in this country and would you really like to be where they are in life? really?

These people are in a horrible place and I know it's true their own actions but they aren't exactly living the life of Riley by any means. I would feel no anger if they get to ride the bus free from their hostels to the methadone clinic and back.

And when they intimidate paying passengers?

When they bring friends along for free?

When they sit upstairs and light cigarettes?

When they are generally making a nuisance of themselves during the journey by asking for money from passengers?

Make the ****ers walk, If they don't like it they can go without their drugs.
