    Hi,
Need some advice. I have an interview next week for a Clerical Officer in the Public Service (summer work). I am an older person and wonder if this would be a disadvantage.
Also, would anyone have any advice on interview questions? I haven't had an interview for many years and was wonder what to expect.
    Many thanks in advance.

If its the temporary clerical officer roles that you are talking about age wont be a disadvantage, last year I worked with a person who was well into their 50s who was a tco. Interview is fairly basic just asking about past experience, how good you are with excel, word, outlook that kind of stuff.

Working in the public service, and having seen TCOs come and go during the summer, it is my experience that older people tend to be more of an asset. I shouldn't generalise, but honestly, it would appear that people who are not just out of school/college are a bit better. Maybe some of the young 'uns can be a bit nonchalant, and can take the opportunity for granted.

    Good luck.

Firstly , well done on getting to the interview stage. Don't put yourself down. The interview is not formal and is more like a chat. You will be fine.

Just to let ye know that the interview went very well.
    Fairly casual.
Received e-mail today confirming that I was successful.
It's just a matter of waiting now to get a placement.

30's to late 40's i would say, find people in their late 50's very set in their ways.
Recently out of school workers are the worst though, you'll be hard pushed to find very young people in clerical and it you do you can be guaranteed they have a high ranking family member employed there

Hi ElisaJane, do you mind me asking what questions you were asked. Were you asked scenario type questions? How long did the interview take and how many interviewers?
