Had a horrible experience with a dentist when I was 15. I had to get a tooth pulled and he did it so bad I was basically uncontrollably bleeding and he had to give me a lot of stitches. I fainted and didn't go back. I found out the locals had nicknamed him the butcher which if I had known before I wouldn't of went to him!

I was persuaded to go to a dentist about two years after that and this guy was absolutely lovely (and hot!) so I guess it's down to the dentist really but it's hard to go when you have had a traumatic experience.

Once they whipped out this book called "The Big Book of British Smiles". Been terrified ever since.

Where is this individual? I might pay him a visit

That sounded very ominous, please don't hurt my kind dentist

    He is in Killarney.

Used to hate the dentist but not so much anymore. I'd rather go get a problem sorted than be in pain with it.

I don't mind going to the dentist. I've had braces, got 4 teeth pulled for braces, 2 wisdom teeth out, dry socket at one stage, few fillings... Never a really had a bad experience with a dentist visit though. It seems to be the ones that had a bad experience that hate going so much!

I have an absolute phobia of dentists. All thanks to being the youngest in my family and hearing all the horror stories.

It's only in the past year I've been able to go to the dentist without some form of sedative. Still hate it though, had a bad experience when I was younger with a dentist who wouldn't believe me when I said the anaesthetic wasn't working :(

I was going to the dentist every eight weeks or so for the guts of 7 years! I got used to it. Didn't mind it too much, but the worst part is when you have to bite into that gooey stuff to make an impression of your teeth. You have to keep it in for about a minute, I kept gagging and my eyes were watering, horrible feeling!

I don't mind the dentist. Growing up, my dentist was a weak elderly woman who just wasn't strong enough to carry out procedures so she inadvertently caused a good deal of pain (getting half a baby tooth extracted after the other half had been wrenched out by corn on the cob is still one of the most traumatic things I've gone through. Over an hour of her desperately tugging at my mouth while my mother tried her best to keep in the chair....not fun). My current dentist is great though!

Every time I get my teeth cleaned I treat myself to the sugariest muffin/cake/biscuit I can find in the nearest cafe. Not only is it a great reward for getting through another appointment, but feeling the sugar coat the too-clean teeth really is a marvelous sensation.

Some young things (and auld ones) obviously do:

A young thing - by name of Malone,
    Went to the dentist alone,
    In a fit of depravity,
    He filled her wrong cavity,
Now see how his practice has grown! :D

I didn't mind it until about 2 years ago when I got a tooth out and it turned into a dry socket, never felt pain like it.

    Now I dread the dentist.

I love love LOVE going to the dentist, my current one anyway. A few years ago with my former dentist she was injecting the anaesthetic away and asked if it was going numb after each dose. Clearly thinking I was yanking her chain for the lulz when I said I could still feel everything she decided to start drilling anyway. Jesus and his dentist wept.

I went to the dentist 6 months ago. I hadn't been in 15 years, never had any problems and just kept putting it off.

Got 6 fillings, all of which were grand, no real pain to speak of at all.

The last time I was at the dentist I decided to try the laser whitening offer they had on.
Sweet mother of f#ck it was the worst thing I have ever experienced, it was fine for about 10 minutes after I left and then every nerve in every tooth started buzzing the most horrendous pain straight up to my brain.

If you've ever eaten a granny smith and got sensitive teeth after, multiply that by a million
I had to rob a valium off my nanna swallowed down with a half bottle of wine to ease it.

had male dentists for years, recently enough it so happened they all left and there was just females there now, it is a whole different kind of experience when a sexy woman has her fingers sliding around your mouth with latex gloves and tits pressed in to your head. super relaxing and soothing, just what you need when someone is going to drill holes in your face

I used to be grand going to the dentist until I was 14. I needed a tooth pulled and he did a horrible job. Same thing happened to me as another poster mentioned - uncontrollable bleeding, sheer agony and he was also nicknamed the butcher! I almost fainted a wee while afterwards in the supermarket with my mum, really needed a lie down. I put off going for years after that, until I was 23 (I'm 26 now). One of my front teeth broke and had no choice but to get it seen to. I changed dentists and cried when I walked in :pac:. He is lovely though. I ended up getting a serious amount of work done because it had been so long - took six months to complete with fortnightly appointments. I have a problem with my teeth, they crumble, so I'm gonna be going back and forth forever now. I take care of my teeth, I'm just unlucky. It's genetic apparently. I'm well overdue in my 6 month check up (like two and a half years lol) because I still hate it. Only thing I enjoy is the gas...I get lots of that :D. I'll have to face my fear and go back though as I need some fillings, its starting to hurt.

So i ended up having to get my tooth pulled, I haven't had one pulled since i was six, it wasn't too bad although the guy was like "you'l feel a lot of pressure and not much pain, switch it around and he might have been right, although the tooth as a whole was massive, and it was only my first big tooth at the back, to which he replied, imagine the size of your wisdom teeth! :o

Again it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, and now I have a sore jaw :(

    Don't like going the dentist?

Take good care of your teeth and avoid the need to have them super cleaned/filled or what have you.

You can do all that and still have problems for various reasons.
