can I ask what was the Offaly team?

sorry man i couldnt tell you , i am only working off text msgs from a friend that was at the game tonight , i have missed all of clares challenge and minor games with the last few weeks due to work

but i doubt offaly were any where near full strength and it must have been hard for them to get a descent squad together after work on a friday evening and make the long trek down to east clare for 7 o clock

the weather was supposed to be shocking over there and the pitch very heavy, but these games the home team is told to go out and give a performance for the locals that turned up

i will post the starting line ups tomorrow once i can get my hands on the program

If any of you need directions to Kilkenny for the challenge match in James Stephens grounds next week just ask your county board to take Liam out onto the main road and let him go. All you need do is follow him. Liam knows the road to Kilkenny better than anyone and always comes home.

Full round of club matches on the Thurs to Sat before the challenge on Sun in KK. Don't read anything into KK performance. There'll probably be a lot of changes during the game on KK side. This is Cody's club. He's just doing them a favour.

we will bring him along but apparently he is very happy in his new home and does not intend returning any time soon.

clare had a good outing against dublin in the minor friday night apparently.
started with 8 first choice players and although they conceeded a few goals in the second half they won (i believe comfortably) in the end

Yes it's a level playing field Twiceasnice97. It was a bit of a slope but they have fixed it up nice and level, that's why they are reopening it.

    newmarket 4-16 tulla 0-10 ft

gauntlet throwing down by the blues!!!

Cratloe beat Kilmaley something like 6 15 to 1 16. Only watched the 1st half. Kilmaley were motoring fine for 1st 15-20 mins but very poor decision making and 1st touch presented Cratloe with 2 goals. Big boost for Cratloes scoring average with Crusheen and the Bridge still to come.

Before that Crusheen beat the the Bridge 1 18 to 08 in a very entertaining gamer. Crusheen were well on top wind assisted in the 1st half, led 14 09 at HT and that was with the Bridge getting 2 very late pts to close the gap to 5
2nd half Bridge came out all guns blazing with 3 quick fire pts. They went onto lead 18 16 with about 7-10 mins left and looked sure for victory. Fair play to Crusheen, they dug a goal out and finished strong.
Alan Brigdale went off injured with what looked a hand or arm problem.

That win gives Crusheen a great chance of qualifying. The Bridge are now under pressure in that group

Clonlara's win was a far bigger statement of intent imo given the opposition.
Ballyea were a tempting 9/4 in PP during the week

true but a few late goals swung it towards the end for clonlara it was a close enough game up until the last 10 mins , the newmarket game was one sided from the word go although as you say had a far easier game

Double header today in the Park.
1st game finished 3-21 to 1-11 in favour of Clarecastle over a very disappointing Tubber side.
Clarecastle pulled away handily in the last 20 minutes and were able to operate at their own pace. Thought it would be a nip and tuck affair.

Inagh-Kilnamona beat Clooney-Quin 2-12 to 1-13 in the 2nd game. CQ hit a bag of wides, some very panicky shooting cost them dearly, IK were able to throw the ball around in their forward line that bit better.

In Senior B, Broadford beat St. Josephs 1-14 to 1-10 and Wolfe Tones beat Ruan something like 3-18 to 0-16.

1st round games now completed apart from the Mills V ???, that was pre-postponed to to a wedding AFAIK

the challange match for the opening of the james stephens grounds in kilkenny finished kilkenny 2-18 clare 1-17 both sides fielded strong sides despite both counties heavily involved with club action over the weekend

tony kelly got clares goal late on and by all accounts going by reports his 21 meter free was hit from less then 10 yards out ........i sense a slight u turn on davey fitz views on the "nash" rule might be on the horizon before the championship starts!!

Outsider here but having read Christy O'Connors book on Doora-Barefield from a few years ago interested in how they are faring, he seemed to be pessimistic about their future at the time, I take it from this result they are still struggling? Is Senior B the equivalent of intermediate in other counties or can these teams get into the senior championship proper?

    Thanks.

I see Davy did not bring Liam with him to Kilkenny. I'd say he was afraid Liam would get home sick and never go back down there. Ah well I suppose we will just have to go to Croker and bring him home if that's the way ye want it.

the ennis area is not as strong as the east/north/south of the county and in fairness never really had much success down through the years , they had a purple patch in the late 90s/early 00s where they picked up 3 county titles but usaly in the past teams like doora/barefield and eire og were always better football clubs then hurling ,

the senior b chapionship allows 2 teams to qualify for the 1/4 finals of the senior championship (if that makes any sense) through a group stage with the
top team of each group getting a place in the last 8 the bottom two teams from the group stages play off to avoid intermediate status

Up till around 1992/93 Doora-Barefield were an intermediate club, so the rise from their to All-Irl senior champions was outstanding.
Part of this reason was having one of the best centre-backs of that generation (or any) in Seanie McMahon, Ollie Baker at midfield and Jamsie O Connor at wing forward. These three would have made any county team during this period so to have them in 1 club was a massive advantage over the competition. Add in a sprinkling of very good club hurlers and things fell into place nicely for a very talented bunch.

During the boom they sold their grounds in Roslevan and built a new set up a few miles out the road, they have great facilities but I'd wonder if maybe it has been a detriment as there's now no pitch for young lads to puck around in Roslevan which would be the village part of the club

Barefield are a great example of a club getting too big too quick, they had an amazing team in the mid-90s that in truth was as good as many inter-county teams, not only had they Seanie, Ollie & Jamesey in key places, they had Christy O'Connor in goal, Ciaran O'Neil & Lorcan Hassett in the forwards not to mention the Hoey brothers, the problem was they were concentrating on the players in the main team and almost forgetting about those coming through. Then Barefield won the County Football as an emagulation with Eire Óg, this seemed to have been an affront to some people in Barefield and they seemed hell bent on making sure they won a football championship on their own.

Now, throw in the fact that they had an ideal pitch right in the centre of their main population, next to a social centre but decided that they should have a complex rather than a pitch so they moved, they got great money for their old pitch but they paid a fortune for their current location as well.

All in all a very badly run club in my opinion

U21s playing Limerick away on Wed evening.
Shane O' Donnell already out with a hamstring tear and Cathal O' Connell now joins him on the sidelines with the same injury, damage done yesterday.

Two big losses from the forward line,
