Stag Cruise From Carrick On Shannon Suggestions

I am sorry because I know that there are lots of "Stag Party Suggestion" threads on boards already but I can't seem to find any recent threads with the info I am looking for.

I am looking to hire boats from Carrick on Shannon for 3 nights and return them to Carrick on Shannon. I was wondering what the nightlife is like if I head north or south from Carrick.

The average age is going to be around 30 - 35 so it wont be anything wild. But we will be looking for good craic and place that will be lively to stop off for a few drinks.

Also, we would like to stop off for a game of golf and some water sports along the way.

Does anyone know if I should play the golf and do the sports in the Carrick area? Also, would Carrick be the best area for the night life? I was thinking of doing the first night and last night in Carrick but this is solely because I don't know the area.

I would be open to suggestions and maybe head away from Carrick on the first and second night and maybe head back there for the last night.

I would welcome any suggestions for places to see and any cool activities to do along the way. Also, I wouldn't necessarily be looking for any crazy night clubs, the thoughts of a good local pub in a small village with a great atmosphere would also be a great option if anyone could point me in the direction of any of them!

I'm just after reading about that scuzz, I had never heard about it! To be honest with you, I have to try and get all of the lads home in one piece but thanks for the suggestion!

You seem to be coming to a conclusion irrelevant to the question I asked? Are you suggesting that we are going to turn into a crowd of "drunken buffoons" and are terrorise the water ways?

Have done carrick and the waterways,
Honestly think best idea is to stay in Carrick go nuts and organise few days out paintball, golf the bodaborg!
The more alcohol= less energy.

Have done a lot stags lately overseas, and price works ends up working the same. But if going be Ireland Carrick is near the top.

Avoid water and alcohol. I've worked as a lifeguard in pools, beaches and lakes. It's never a good result

I appreciate your concern ted1. Thanks very much. It's nice to hear a genuine safety message from a qualified professional and not just someone assuming that there are a crowd of drunken buffoons going on a cruise.

I have got a sensible head on me so safety will be top priority on the weekend.

You'll want to get to the boats fast, son....

Thanks skippy! That boda borg sounds like an interesting place. Anyone who is coming on the stag has signed up because we are going to be hiring a boat so I'm afraid that we have to get a boat.

I don't think that I will be able to motivate the crowd for paint balling. The last time they all did that they pissed and moaned about it all day

I'd be up for it but it wouldn't be much fun on my own!

There is an evening boat cruise, three or four hours of a booze cruise good for stag and hens. Havent done it myself but might suit purpose

Well I come from that general area. I don't know much about the towns North of Carrick, but Some tips for Carrick itself (personal opinion, others may disagree)

- Don't stop at Rooskey or Dromod (South/East of Carrick). Years ago they were great villages to stop for a pint in. Now they're dead with little to nothing going on, although Dromod is a nice scenic village on a good summer's day.
- Further South is Lanesboro, a small bit more lively than the 2 villages mentioned but still wouldn't be very much going on.
- Carrick is a magnet for stags and hens now, so there will most likely be loads of others there.
- There will be many many more males than females in Carrick. It's a stag so that might not be a major issue but just a thing to be aware of.
- Carrick is good on a Saturday night. Friday is ok, forget Sunday altogether (unless its a bank holiday).
- Main pubs in Carrick are Dunnes bar and Murtaghs. Murtaghs has a late bar upstairs that tends to attract an older crowd. The basement has a nightclub and there is another nightclub at the Landmark hotel. Would have a younger crowd.
- There are other pubs in the town that are decent too, again Saturday being the main night.
- If you wanted to just stay in Carrick like many do you could do the 'Moon River' cruise. Few hours on the Shannon drinking.

That's all I can think of for now

boyle is decent for a daytrip (forest park, king house) but i wouldn't recommend it for a night out. carrick is very lively on a weekend, athlone is quite good for a nightout if a little rough.

if you are in carrick around august take a car and drive to ballinamore. the week long festival there is great.

Ah Jaysus man, there was some scarcasm going on in some of those replys. You hardly think that a few bottles of fizzy drink would be the plan for a stag weekend do ya?

If that was the case I wouldn't be going. Also, I was just trying to be polite to anyone who has seen first hand experience of drinking and water. Obviously I don't want anyone downing on the stag but theres gonna be a serious amount of drinking going on.
