Has anybody noticed a huge increase in amount of UK-registered cars driving around Dublin lately?

    Tourists? Returning immigrants? property buyers?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

That's what the campaigners say in the run up to every election. And the people believe them.

    But

How come they can never quote said legislation?
How come we never see these 'letters from Brussels' that they claim to have which back up their statements.

    I wonder why.

    Sorry.:(

I just don't like snakeoil salesmen. And their tactics of getting innocent people into trouble believing their lies. And then they are nowhere to be seen when fines have to be paid and jail time done

I imagine alot of these cars are german 1.9 rape tax vehicles if one has to tax them in roi.

Infiltration/prepping before ground assault and aerial bombardment in 2016. :P

You are entitled to bring in goods from any EU country without paying tax, however, the law says nothing about enjoying those provisions.

You are paying to get an Irish registration plate which is a requirement if registering a car in ROI. Is it legal to base the price on the Irish market value of the car? Yes. Is it fair? No.

Ah, that makes sense, cheers. If you were resident in another EU country for at least the previous six months you can buy the plate for a fixed, very much cheaper rate?

The all-inclusive marching season has started up North so you'll see a lot of northern reg cars in the coming weeks. I've noticed loads of them already.

Up here in the NW we obviously have a lot of NI/UK reg cars what with folk moving from NI to RoI and not wanting to re-register. Or else buying cheaper in NI and driving around down south.

Thing is, these folk still have an address in NI, either parents or siblings, for taxing the car, but how do Dublin folk manage this? I know some will have moved from NI or UK maybe but I know of some people born and bred in RoI who drive NI cars.

When I worked in Security on a building site in Drogheda any time a UK or NI registered car drove onto the site it was gypsies/ travellers.

They don't seem to drive any other
