Not to mention scars. Scars are awesome to show off, especially when you're young.

    I know right!!!!!

    Girls love scars :D

That could have turned very nasty if the cat hadn't intervened.

The kid was injured badly enough to need stitches.

A cat in attack or defence mode is scary though. They are very, very vicious when they need to be.

Small and medium wildcats are very formidable and our domestic cats are just human-friendly cousins of theirs.

Never mind the cat, this shows how dangerous roaming dogs can be.

The dog wasn't exactly roaming though, it had got out of a neighbours yard when they opened the gate.

Any dog that attacks a human, especially a child should be put down. It is entirely the dog owner's fault, but you simply can't have a dog that you can't trust around people, especially kids.

I say that as a confirmed dog-lover. (I'm agnostic at best towards cats....gotta admit the pussy got the job done here though, fair play).

I love dogs but its clear from the video and the report that this was a dangerous animal. Goodness knows what would have happened to the lad had the moggy not stepped in. I dont have a problem with them putting it down.

I can't help thinking that, if this kid had been on the scene, things would have turned out very, very differently. No need to put the dog down....he took care of it.

It's a good thing that the cat did step in because the person video taping it wasn't doing anything to help.

    Lots of cat lovers here.

Your broadband speed is directly proportional to your dog or cat preference.

I cant get over how much CCTV coverage they have and how clear it is.

I did see a Rottweiler chase a cat into a corner. I thought the cat was in trouble but it hissed/spat/clawed etc and the Rottweiler got scared. There was a standoff for about an hour before the dog got bored.

Gated community... Lots of security and paranoia in the states. Some justified, most not.

The attack cat was a good investment though!

"Police said the dog would be quarantined for 10 days and then put down."

Why does it need to be quarantined?

What type of dog is that?

C'mon it's clearly 3 people videoing it... I employ 14 people to video my house 24/7.

Interesting to, how the parents aquired the cat .Seems he followed them home for a long distance from a park when they were out walking .They then decided to adopt him .
I have no doubt that the vicious dog would have killed the young boy without the very special cat .

That is an amazing moggie. Contrary to popular cats are family based, not unlike dogs and can be just as territorial. She saw an intruder on her patch attacking one of her own and that means you're goin down dog/cat/human[delete as applicable]. I remember reading of a Boardsies cat that foiled a burglary by attacking the scumbag and chasing him off. As a kid I knew a cat that was very protective of his garden and the family and would and did go for any animal that crossed the threshold. Dogs and other cats gave "his" patch a wide berth and he bit lumps out of a fox once.

You can't trust any animal full stop they can turn over the slightest thing, they feel threatened, have young close by maybe they're just having a s*it day.

Did they find the cat the day after their grandfafther passed away, and his last words were, "I'll be looking out for ye all"? That's what would make this story truly great.

Probably want to run tests to make sure it doesn't have rabies or any other diseases before the dispose of.

I'm not the first to cry "destroy the dog", but in this case I would be. Totally unprovoked attack. IMHO he was in full prey mode and was out to kill that child. It was all on the dog's side.

I think after watching it a second time he was in guard dog mode.my old dog whenever my mates would call up to the door would be all happy to see them, then turn into an absolute psycho the minute they crossed the threshold.

I dunno Beano. If the child had crossed onto his patch I'd say maybe, but the dog spots the child, gives no warning barks, comes in from behind and takes the child down by the legs with the headshake to take out the hamstring/cause trauma. Looks like a letter perfect stalking prey attack to me, triggered by a small childs movements. I'd bet the farm he wouldn't have tried the same thing if it was an adult bloke standing where the child was.

Weird irony is that it's the "farm" he's going to now.

Hard to know with animals,my old pooch was a jack Russell and had no qualms about fully grown humans, horses or pit bulls.I don't think he seen the child as a meal I doubt human is high up on the canine food chain.
