Strimmer to cut rushes

    Hi have a few clumps of rushes some are say 1-2ft in field which has good grass.Letting out animals in next few days don't want to chance spraying them and if i top them will be cutting into the grass as well,Would a strimmer/brushcutter cut them or would it be a pain and if a strimmer can cut them what would ye recommend? Many thanks

    We got a Honda 4 stroke one, forget the exact model, but it has a three pieced blade on it. It will cut rushes but large infestations would prove a tedious exercise.

    If it were me I'd wipe them with glyphosate. I use a paint roller and a rectangular bucket to wipe off the excess chemical on the inside of the bucket. Works well if it's not a large amount.

    Yeah would be tedious alright.if i wiped them with roundup which is glyphosate? i think or similar how long before could let animals into field?

    Something I have done with a stihl strimmer witha blade and it was very satisfying. I came at the clump from the side and then cut right down to the ground.

    I reckon they'd be safe in a week, there is a guideline for stock on the label I can't remember whether it's one week or two.
