How is that different to Chelsea losing twice away from home in the run in? Just because of the dates of the games? You get 3 points for them all the same.

And winning the Palace game wouldn't have mattered, we'd have lost of goal difference. So we needed 7 points from 9, which is ALWAYS hard. City had much easier fixtures...

Chelsea/Arsenal has Blown it. Hence, why Man City are the Champions.

But it still doesn't Change the Fact, that we've Blown it too.

We were beaten by Chelsea, a team who also did the double over Man City. We didn't blow it, we were beaten by a very good team.

We didn't have to get Beat though. A Draw would have been enough to see us.

It wouldn't. Looking back on it now, we needed 4 points from Chelsea and Palace.

I think the point is others blew it against teams well below them, we got beaten by a team better than us. Not really blowing it if your beaten by better opposition.

But of course we only needed a draw, something we were well able to acheive. Depends on your outlook i suppose.

There is no way we would have lost a 3 goal lead at Palace had we got a result against Chelsea. We were desperate to score more goals as if it would make any difference.

There's no point in looking back and killing ourselves over what could have been but the one that annoys me the most, even more than the Gerrard slip, was Kolos brain fart against West Brom.

    I'm not

If we won the next five leagues in a row, i think i'd still be waiting for the other shoe to drop. 2010 has me very afraid cos we were in great shape that time as well before the walls came tumbling down.

It's strange, this is the best liverpool league season i've ever seen, and i'm sick to my stomach at it. Very proud of the team all the same, but i'm gutted.

    Same.

At the Start of the Season, I'd Bite your Hand Off, if you said Liverpool will finish 2nd and get Guaranteed CL.

But I'm not going to Lie, and say I wasn't Disappointed. Specially when we came so very close in ending our Title Drought.

I've been Down since the Chelsea Game. Couldn't bring myself to Post here. Nor Read the Futile Hopes being Piled on Villa or Westham to get the desired Results for us.

The Everton vs Man City Game, is when I knew it was over.

It took me several Days to get accustomed to it, but it's still so Hard to take.

Hopefully, we'll get to do it again next Season.

Sterlings "offside" versus City is up there for me also.

I don't think we were particularly gun ho against Chelsea prior to Stevie's mistake. Then of course once that occurred we had to throw the kitchen sink at them to get back into the game.

Misfortune forced our hand. The Palace game is a whole other matter.

There should be a statute of limitations on disecting this season. Let's wrap that up today and look forward...

ugh, the "bottling it" shíte again. we're going to have to hear this most of the summer aren't we?

look, we lost to Chelsea. that does not constitute bottling it or collapsing in any language. that is the narrative peddled by rival fans who want something to laugh at to make themselves feel a bit better about life and about this past season.

if we don't lose to Chelsea, we beat Palace because we don't do the stupid thing in going for goal difference. yes, that was naive and idiotic, but it wasn't a bottle job. it was poor decision making.

it's not difficult. call us stupid and naive maybe, but don't call us bottlers as that's utter bollocks.

Transfer silly season is almost upon us. Looks like Southampton are going to get pillaged. Lallana to Liverpool, Shaw to United.

Reckon Jay Rodriguez's injury could be fortunate for them as he was another that would be on rival clubs radar.

Exactly. 2013/14 season is now over for Liverpool. We now concentrate on building for the 2014/15 campaign.

Bottling something is when you end up losing games against teams you really should be beating to see out the season, think of Utd in the 91/92 season when they lost 3 on the bounce at home to Forest and away to an already relegated West Ham and then Liverpool.

Liverpool lost to one of the top teams in the division who themselves were chasing the title and have the best record of all against top 4 teams.

There is a difference in that and bottling winnable games

But that, accurate as it is, does not fit the narrative.

I was thinking of the 91/92 Utd team too as an example. I'd also say us in 89 when Arsenal beat us 0-2 and of course Newcastle in 96. Certainly wouldn't consider this year as a "bottling" example.
We had a bit of luck as well, notably against Stoke and Fulham but what I'll remember most about this year is the absolute hammering we gave out to the likes of Spurs, Utd, Arsenal and Everton.

Yes but the Palace game was a bottle job, that more than the Chelsea game was where they needed to show the character to see it out.

Not really, we got caught because of our own bravery, if we had gone to Palace and not preformed at all going down to 1 nil or 2 nil beating then yes i would agree.

We got caught out chasing goals plain and simple, we actually put in a performance but got caught out. Not putting in a performance is bottling it.

A more irritating myth than us bottling is that we can't compete next year due to the champions league. Just because we didn't have it this year does't mean its a negative next year if thats the case Man Utd should piss the league next year.

Also City won the league this year after competing in the champions league and I know they have a stronger squad than us but I believe they used the least amount of players in the premier league this season, it meant when needed in the league the likes of Javi Garcia and Milner had decent gametime under their belt this season. Compare that with someone like Aspas who when needed was not up to scratch as he hadn't played all year.

I realise Javi Garcia and Milner are superior players to Aspa's but the hope is that we will improve the squad past this and will have a higher quality of player than Aspas to call upon next year.

People realise another 19 teams didn't win the league as well yeah?

Was over in the city yesterday, everywhere full of reds.

Where we go from here is so important, hopefully it can be our 1991-92 and we will push on

We do not know that is why I hated the people saying we should have played for a draw against Chelsea and see if we can nick it as something like Palace can happen. Realistically foing for GD was stupid as they had been so far ahead.

We had a great season dissapointing not to wim but hey at least Moses is gone. We have to decide do we sell Aspas or use him next season as he is 2 old really to send on loadn but I think Alberto should be sent on loan. Defenders and a replacement for Lucas is needed and someone to do Gerrards job to interchange. If we have a chance of getting a big name striker I see Sturridge may go unfortunately (that is if Suarez does not go which I think he will not)

So I am already looking forward.

Sell - Reina, Jones, Kelly, Assaidi, Aspas
    Release - Moses, Cissokho
Recall & Use - Ilori, Wisdom
Loan - Alberto, Ibe, Teixeira, McLaughin, Lloyd Jones

Decision to make - Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Johnson, Lucas, Suso

I think we need to be hard on the back 4. Sakho will improve and has the right attributes. Enrique will be happy to complete for his place, and maybe Agger will to. I think Skrtel has shown himself to be too unreliable to be a starter at this level, 4 OGs and a number of other goals that he can take some blame for. So if Ilori can provide cover and start a few, we need a new first choice alongside Sakho or Agger.

why has kelly's star fallen so much? Johnson's performances have been poor in recent times, surprised he didn't get a look-in, not even on the bench - is he still carrying a knock or something?

henderson suspension, sturridge injury, johnson's poor form and suarez looking human for the last few games maybe caught up with as much as any defensive failings. Squad not quite big enough to cope - hopefully we'll put that right this window

Thank Jesus the World Cup is on this summer. I could not abide 3-4 months of pure transfer speculation. Horrific, is the only way to describe it.

A lot of people looking at whole sale changes in the squad. I dont think thats the way they will go about it IMO. You have to be careful not to bring in too many newbies like Spurs. Shouldnt be too much of an issue as the spine of our team should remain:

    Mig

    Flanagan xx Sakho xx
    Henderson Gerrard

    Sterling Coutinho

    Suarez Sturridge

Obviously we need new players with CL etc but would prefer quality over quantity.
