going to view this at 9.30, i was hoping for an e11 model but the price is right on this, it looks clean and has a little tax and test, could be a winner.
An e11 is a better car granted but there is nothing wrong with those e10's either though tbh.

From a reliability perspective they are pretty much bullet proof.

    this is my thinking.

i mean the same chassis and engine is used in the e11 and the e10. it's probably a little more dated to drive but still much more comfortable and presentable than the starlet.

it's mere a safety perspective i'm concerned about, but i asume they are both on a similar par in the regard too in terms of impact protection and structural elements. would a 96 e10 have a drivers airbag or abs?

I'd imagine I would be. I doubt it's attractive for people to take back to the Europe,

Even if it was - the seller would need serious luck for such a buyer to come looking - they would need them to be looking now and to be looking for a Clio sized car.

Thus - if you like the car enough to consider buying it - you should be able (in theory) to name your price.

Obviously - the seller could take the view that if they go below a certain figure - they might as well keep it - but no harm done if they do take that viewpoint.

If the E11 is the 98/99 era Corolla - then from what I remember - they have a 3 star N cap safety rating - bear in mind back then the top rating was probably a 4 star rating.

How important is safety to you - and whats the budget.

The Volvo S40 mk 1 - had a 4 star Ncap rating - top rating at the time - so id expect that the S40 would be a much better bet safety wise then a 96 Corolla.

I don't think a 96 Corolla would have ABS - and most didn't have drivers airbags - think ive only seen one of that era Corolla with airbags.

The E11 does have both drivers and passengers airbags afaik but not 100 percent sure what the story is on pre 99 models - and some had ABS - I think it was in 99 they started fitting the ABS but not sure if all have it from 99 on

1996/7 models has an airbag if they were the PLUS special edition of run out models. They had nicer colours and white dials also.

Your right - they do - mind went a bit blank as I was typing

Most of the Plus models ive seen were 97s but not sure exactly when they bought them in

Very late 96 afaik. My sister had one, 97 TN1297 and I loved it. I'd certainly like one to park in my shed.

I'm just doing say 200km's a day from september to january coming and want a car for as little as possible that would be more robust than the starlet should the unthinkable happen. mostly on single lane 100km/h roads, national roads but not illuminated or particularly straight.

toyota, cheap, safe in that order. would spend up to 1k ish. i think the 96 had a drivers airbag, but am doubtful for ABS.

Looks grand. Tax would be sore but for 3 months wouldn't be too bad.

Quick look on Done deal found this

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/99-toyota-corolla-1-3/6913926

Not quite sure whats going on with the boot lid - ie the gap to the rear wings looks narrower on the passenger side then the drivers - but the one outside is EXACTLY the same.

that's a good idea :) in that i never usually search tipp county for cars on dd despite being right next door to it :pac:.

that's a nice looking example. i've made an arrangement to view this blue one so we will see how it goes.

This, the xli plus had a drivers airbag and white dials and also had a rev clock.

The standard xli lacked the rev clock and instead had a massive fuel gauge and temperature gauge on either side of the speedometer to take up the space :p

I get the feeling we're never going to hear the end of this MGF inspired gloating :D

Nope. MGF did not need nothing. It drove fine but was too low and hit off speed bumps. So the hydragas suspension had to be pumped up. The only place around Dublin that does it is the former main MG dealer, and they charged a whopping €44.92 incl. VAT

So the car (with more than half a tank full of petrol) stands me €595 :D

Well I wouldn't want you to lose money on it so we'll call it €600, yeah?:)

    Great cars. I'm bias though.:pac:
He'll do well at this asking though. I advertised my one last February.
Exact same car, same engine, same colour, wheels, spoiler etc.
Less Miles (97k mls), 1 year newer ('05), exact same NCT expiry.
Got one phone call in about 8 weeks.
Let it off for €2k to the first guy who called.!!
Bloody steal at that, considering the clammer for €4k corollas & focuss of the same year coz they are a 1.4..
    Anyway rant over..!
