Lol. Saw a lovely blue 300 in galway yesterday. Levels of want were off the scale.

But I have other plans :)

Check out the T-Bird for sale for 3.5k... 7.0 liters of fury and 9-12 mpg
If I had the cash currently I'd be all over that like an american on a corndog

Hope you're all bringing spare tyres.....;-)

We are anyway, we have plenty of rims. I presume the others recognise that need :)

I'd fancy coming along date depending, only problem is the fact I haven't changed out open diff and I'd need some beefier rubber

That's what it used to be :) I'm not sure he'd let you out to be honest man :)

Doubt you'll get out in anything that doesnt resemble a drift car tbh. They dont usually tolerate timewasters and messers down there, las thing they need is an accident on their hands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭Cleveland Hot Pocket

    Only joking lads
I'm sure a matt black zed will be fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,728 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Looking at getting something instead of the Mazda for this and future drift meets.
Fingers crossed it works out, it'll be better way than learning in what's to be a daily!

Very true, we will be bringing two very prepared cars so that might take the light off ye :)

This one should be "well prepared" if it goes ahead, dedicated drifter anyway! Haha

A lot of it is about looking the part, he'll reckon you're ok then.

If you were to, say, turn up in an automatic 300zx in matt black.... :pac:

Are you saying CHP's Fairlady is automatic?

Does he require a full car, for example... Removing body panels? :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,473 ✭✭✭YbFocus

    Yep sadly it is :(

How removed are we talking of?

It can't look like an autograss car like :)

That I'll keep in mind, we're just looking at weight reduction methods here... Roof will have to stay on I guess. :pac:

We have the internals of the boot gone, all the sound deadening and the inside has been fairly skinned too.
Once it still looks like a car you're ok

Edit: There'll be no wetting of this track. That kills entry speed and momentum and everything!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,728 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

Well I've been dropping a fair bit of weight lately, so I'll keep that going. :D
I'm among the heavies of the interested parties for this car anyway so we should be alright. :)

That's the idea, we plan to strip the interior (dash needed?) and sell what we don't need to make a bit of cash back. Looking at a great deal if everything works out.

high entry speed+rookies+no run off areas= disaster

Getting people in slow and controlling the car on a wet track (from a slow speed) would make a much better learning experience. Would require less throttle and thus less chance of a mistake. Would be like a skid pan, build up confidence first.

But sure its not like I have ever seen it go wrong....

I can fully agree here but hosing a track also creates wet and dry spots which can by a nightmare for doing skids. Different levels of traction to that scale can be a lot to deal with, especially for someone new.
Rain is good, hoses can be dodgy.

To be fair, it's a small track and you're not going to be getting up to much speed there.
Entry speed may well be running pace after a long, sweeping drift.

You can't get up more than 60mph on that track on the straight in the fastest cars. If you want to enter slower then you do there's no need to go full attack unless you feel competent enough. In the turns your genuinely doing tops of 20-25mph carrying as much speed as you can.

I've seen it go wrong too, we painted the outer barrier on the outside of turn two with a 180 before. All a learning game!

Hence why I'm looking at a beater!

I can totally see where you're coming from by the way, but I trust these lads will take it easy before pushing.
I don't think they have a way of wetting the track anyway!
